The uniform is also featured in BA cabin magazines this month. I hope it's worth all the cost.

Allegedly :hmm: , it costs less to produce than the current uniform.

Personally I can't wait for it to come out, its got a smart look and by all accounts is better wearing than the current uniform.

Not too sure about the tie though, I thought we were getting different ones!

Does anyone know if the new hats will be compulsary i.e to be worn by all female crew on every flight, or will they be worn at the discretion of the crew member?

stuart212,
The hats with the new Julien McDonald uniform will only be worn by members of the BA promotional team, and crew operating special and VIP flights.

It's very classic 'BOAC' I particularly like the hat which tops it off nicely...I am very impressed it is certainly unusually stylish for this day and age...I hope it is as practical :ok:

I'm reminded of an experience some 16+ years ago, when as a television director, I was assigned to make a non-broadcast programme (for BA) about the last-but-one "stripy" uniform for crews.

Unfortunately, at the time we made the programme, the real print materials had not been received by the uniform makers, so some bright spark at BA had a load of uniforms made up which had poster paint (or similar) stripes painted on to the white fabric (shirts, blouses, ties etc.). At one point, we had a short scene where a group of cabin crew had to walk from a LHR pan, across to an aircraft. So far so good. Unfortunately though, it started to rain. Within seconds, all of the "models" resembled an explosion in a paint factory. :p

I'm flying with BA tomorrow MAN-LHR-DOH, will I get to see it? I like the look of what I've seen, the female uniform looks nice (slighty subject to the wearer of course! ;) )

I think it is absolutely gorgeous! I would love to have something similar for our new uniform at DL, but for some reason getting f.a.s over here to consider a hat is difficult. What do you guys think of the hat? I love it!

Not seen any yet. I think the rollout will be fairly slow initially.

As an ex-british airways employee I think it looks fantastic! It once again will give british airways an 'edge' over some of it's competitors. People will once again 'want' to fly 'the world's favourite airline' If they also do a new ad-campaign to go with it to revamp the airlines image after the demise of concorde & dwindling passenger numbers to LCC's etc I think they'll once again get it right. Add some of that lovely opera music they play alot & you've got an airline to be even more proud of than before. Well done B.A. :ok:

All I can say is that I can't wait to get into the uniform!!!! It's stylish, practical and sexy!!! But c'mon guys, lets vote the hat back in!! I think all us crew should wear it, we'll all look so good. can you imagine us all walking through the terminals in that uniform with the hat! We'll look fantastic! :) But that's just my opinion...hehehe. I know Im gonna be first in line on Monday to book my uniform fitting appointment! :)

I find the new uniform dull-bland bordering the boring but it is a new garment so I welcome it with no reservations and I can t wait to wear it in the hope to change my mind about it.

Congrats to all at BA with the upcoming stylish new rags! :ok:
Very "stewardessy" with that retro look; will be great fun to wear I reckon. With all the down-grades in what we actually do on board and the loco's breathing down the necks of the old companies, looking the part of the glam FA should be a good feeling.
Having now worked for 14 years in the same ill fitting monkey suit, I am dead envious of you lot! :)

I think the new uniform looks great !!!!!! the hat finishes it off ..one thing i have noticed these days is more airlines are goingfor the open blouse and scarf look. thomas cook airline uniform is that of the parent company Lufthansa but with different coloured scarf

Flying_Sarah I totally agree with you - Bring the hats back for all crew not just pormotional crew, it tops the look off totally...You would all look fab!

Another thing I think stramlines the look is if all crew have the same cabin bags, e.g Emirates,Virgin - sometimes BA Crew look like a mismatch bunch with all varying types of Cabin bags/trolleys!!

;) Totally agree with you Stuart212! We would look so much smarter with a crew bag that everyone had as at the moment it looks a little messy!
I really think the new uniform is amazing! I back everyone who thinks that the hat should be issued to everybody! It would look amazing see a whole crew wearing the new uniform with the hat....bit like Pan Am hosties in the movie Catch me if you Can!!

Bring it on!!!:D

I love it..Congratulations BA!! :ok:

I wish Qantas had this designer give them some help with our poor excuse for a "new designer uniform" There is alot to be said. At least the new BA uniform has colour to it..nice reds and blues..matches the livery, matches the interior of the aircraft and looks great. Ive said it before and ill say it again, whoever thought of Black and Brown for Qantas should be shot... Lets see, our livery is Red and White, and our aircraft interiors are Blue.. Makes total sense :hmm:

its true... BA need new CC uniforms... but im not sold on these ones yet.

hey Bodum... i think your QF uniform looks great! i think black/charcoal is in... navy blue is very nineties. And the QF livery wouldnt match anything interesting too.

lets compare the BA ones to the QF ones.....

http://www.qantas.com.au/info/about/uniforms

i know im a bit biased... but i vote for QF.

smile!

p.s Bodum... id be checkin you out in your uniform if you walked past me on an a/c;)

New uniform will make a change and looks ok - but i hope we get given more than just current 2 blouses as Mr Mcdonald is putting us women back into the dark ages by making us iron the new ones.
I like the current matierial you wash it in the sink, hang it up and its dry and ready to go next shift. For those of us working 6/7 days home each night we needed something practical. I dont want to spend what precious time i have at home washing and ironing my new white blouse.
OK i know the CC guys have had to do this all the time but lots of us have to run homes and children and partners - ironing in the 21st century should be banned. Bet Kylie and co don't iron their JM outfits.

Are we only going to be given two white blouses??? What a nightmare! How's that going to work? I've got 6 of the old ones, and when I do 7 days on at a time that's only just enough to cover me!

I saw somebody in the uniform at the Compass centre on Wednesday! It looked really good! I feel sorry for the people who get it straight away though cause everyone's gonna be staring at them! I should be in mine on May 12th! YAY!!! :)

As for the QF uniform, I think it looks lovely as well! That print dress looks really feminine!

What do the guys at BA think of their uniform? Most who I've spoken to aren't that wrapped.

I'm sorry, but that's just the typical British (not Airways) frumpy unflatering approach to uniforms, though I do like the ladies' scarves and hats.

Of course it IS an improvement over the current one, but why can we not make glamorous uniforms in Britain?

And who took the photo for thisislondon? If they'd listened to the shipping forecast, they'd have known about the Force Ten gale they had the models walk into - look even the aircraft were grounded that day.

I thinik it's the tunic type jackets that did it :yuk:

I understand that you only get two blouses/shirts as we all do, but as the company is trying to save some money. I expect during the year we will be able to go to the uniform stores to get some new ones... If you are sneaky, just go to the stores and get some more...I have 4 inflight jackets...

itsinthebag
27th Apr 2004, 07:30
What nonsense - you'll get 6 blouses - i know staff that have already been issued with them!

hgrubb - please don't try and sound like life is SO DAMN TUFF for you just because your'e a woman with a home to run and children and a partner and dont have time to launder white shirts - theres plenty of MEN out there who have the SAME responsibilities and STILL manage to 'wash and iron' their shirts.

Honey - your'e not alone!

Sorry but i was only expressing an opinion which i thought was the whole point of the forum.
I did not say we were getting 2 blouses i only commented that i currently only have 2 blouses.
Calm down dear

Bit worried about the mention of the 'figure hugging' jacket. Would this be a good time to be fitted for a corset?

Got mine this week it really is lovely to wear
It's a much more generous cut than the old style and much more flattering, I made sure I went in after a flight so I would be beautifully bloated and still the skirt was more comfortable than my old one.
I haven't seen anyone that it doesn't look good on yet (and I'm not petite by any stretch but if I do say so myself it even makes me look good!!!) ;)

It's very nice to wear, the kick pleat in the skirt makes movement much less restrictive and yes the kick pleat is supposed to be one side 'down the left leg'
(as they kept repeating in uniform stores every time I pulled it to the middle!)

I agree let's bring back the hat, I hate wearing hats as I have very fine curly hair, but I'd suffer for that one I love it!

It is funny though as there isn't instant recognition from other airlines yet, they don't know who we are, I had to go to LHR to ask about something and the United airlines staff were looking at me blankly and then asked, sorry who do you work for? When I told them, BA this is the new uniform, they were all, ooh let's see, ooh it's gorgeous etc etc

And I also agree about the crew bags, i'm so pleased with my new uniform I actually went out and bought new bags as I thought mine were too scruffy!

So basically a big :ok: for the new uniform

At Qantas when our new uniform was launched we had a "cutover " date where by we continued to wear our old uniforms until the cutover date of Sep22. Do you BA folk just start wearing your new uniforms as soon as you get them ? or do you have a cutover date ?

p.s - love the new BA uniform :ok:

QF skywalker

Sadly we haven't got a cut over date, I think that would have been nicer, but it does mean I can start wearing mine straight away which is great for me

We do have to do a new PA before the demo to ensure everyone's aware to look for two different uniforms!

Oh and for those asking about washing the blouses, they wash fine and tumble dried and hung up straight away they're not bad at all, although they would probably be better ironed, but they don't crease too badly at all
