Does anyone know if there are any airstrips in Lancashire? (500m +) My parents live between Chorley and Blackburn. The nearest I can see being Blackpool and Barton, both quite some distance. Obviously Samlesbury is out

Any help would be much appreciated.

I know of one at Carnforth if that's of any use?

Burscough, near Ormskirk, isn't too far away. It's a disused Naval airfield with a north/south hard runway. I don't know if it's still open (anyone got an up to date Lockyers?). The runway is certainly still there - I saw it last Saturday from the air. I used to fly parachutists from here in the early 80s.

Forget Salmesbury - you have to be BAe and into gliding
Rawtensstall - If you mean Lumb Strip beware
If you have an helicopter its OK but its a strip not for the faint hearted.
The motorway network is good oop north and Chorely is about 25mins drive from Barton
Give the LAC a ring and they'll clue you in

'E's reet you know (Sir George). Barton's your best bet. Haydock Park racecourse has an E-W strip, but very much PPR & usually only on race days. There is/was a microlight strip up near Blackburn somewhere. Not sure if Rawtenstall Lumb i still open these days but as you said, it requires nerves of steel. plus transport to Chorley is probably impractical.

I'd take Barton while it's still there! The coffee is quite nice too these days.

Hey matey

With the bargain you've just bought you must have enough spare spondoolies to take a Citation into Manch and get a limo......?;) :p

I warn you, despite what Poet says, if you go to Barton...DO NOT HAVE THE COFFEE!!!!.....unless you want to take some home to strip paint with , that is...seriously, there is no real alternative to Barton or Blackpool.

Maybe it's my taste buds that have got more accustomed to it.... oir maybe it's because I have the cappucino these days... whatever it comes from a machine rather than that horrendous stuff they used to have. It was legendary at one time.

The tea's OK. You can't go far wrong pouring hot water onto a tea bag in a mug. So that's what SSD sups at Barton.

Yes, Lumb is short & steep & pretty rough, and at about 1000msl, often in the clouds.

It would be great if Samlesbury would open up because the area needs a strip in that general area.

Can't go wrong with Barton.
