I had no idea how expensive it is to actually join an aero club. All i want to do is buy a block of about 10-15 hours to keep current until i do my hourbuilding in the summer. Is there anywhere i can just buy a block of 10 hours without having to pay a huge membership fee, in ireland!

S,

The reason you have to join is usually an insurance requirement.

Some clubs/schools allow daily or monthly or a pro rata membership.

Have a look around in your area and am sure you will be able someone that can accommodate.

In the UK there is actually NO legal requirement to be a club member to hire an aircraft as long as the aircraft is on a Public Transport CofA, there may however be club rules that require you to be a member if you want to fly their aircraft (usually part of the insurance requirements as said by Flyin'dutch'). You can quite often find local owners who will hire out. Good luck:ok:

I run Welshpool Flying School, and this is the way we operate:

You would be required to join our club - i.e. impart certain details, such as place of residence, age, licence and medical details, etc..
Obviously, we have to ensure that all is in order.

BUT, we don't charge for the privilege. Membership here is absolutely FREE of charge.

If you are new to our type (Cessnas), or have not flown for 28 days or more, you'd require a quick checkout with one of our instructors, (probably just a circuit or two), and then you could hire to your hearts content!

Only problem..... Mid Wales is a long way from Ireland

The club I'm with charges £40 per year, which I think is very fair. PA28 rental is about £100/hr but includes all landing fees / approach fees etc for EGHH. And they're nice people, pretty laid back:ok: I'm in a syndicate now, but its good to have the option to fly a club plane and do some cheap instrument approaches etc...

Cheers

There are a number of companies who specialise in aircraft hire however, they will have minimum experience requirements that you are may be unabe to meet. Minimum PIC hours, IMC rating, or CPL.

You could try Biggin Hill or Fowlmere.
