'British Airways (BA) has terminated its franchise agreement with struggling Dutch regional carrier Base Regional Airlines which is still trying to restore normal services. The Eindhoven-based carrier was forced to suspend flights on 6 April as it attempted to carry out a financial restructuring. Its management has since been holding talks with potential investors and had hoped to be able to resume services after the Easter weekend. Nobody at Base Airlines was immediately available to comment on the status of these talks, but the airline has currently cancelled flights up to and including 23 April. A spokeswoman for BA says that despite extensive talks with Base following the suspension of flights, the company was unable to find enough common ground to continue with the current franchise agreement. Consequently its franchise arrangement has been terminated. Base became a BA franchise in the spring of 1999, operating turboprop services between the Netherlands and the UK cities of London, Birmingham and Manchester, ans Zurich in Switzerland. Last month the carrier dropped its Eindhoven services to both London Gatwick and Heathrow and phased out its British Aerospace Jetstream 31s in favour of an all-Embraer EMB-120 Brasila fleet. The BA spokeswoman says that pre-booked Base customers will be re-routed to their destinations. Base is one of a network of a dozen BA franchise partners.'
