Eight survive Army chopper crash
Emergency crews are now in the process of taking eight Defence Force personnel to hospital after a Black Hawk helicopter crashed in South-East Queensland.
The Oakey-based Army helicopter crashed near the Bremmer river at Mt Walker, 20 kilometres from the RAAF base at Amberley, south-west of Brisbane.
A Defence Force spokesman says it was on a routine training exercise at the time and there are no obvious signs of mechanical failure.
Rescue crews rushed to the scene to treat the eight people on board.
It is understood four are still able to walk.
One is being flown to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra hospital, which houses a specialist spinal unit.
Another is being flown to the Gold Coast hospital.
Two others are being flown to the Royal Brisbane Hospital with serious chest injuries.
Local farmer Norm Kerle says he san see the chopper from his house.
"I didn't take any notice because they've been flying very low, I'd say a few times during the morning - they would have only been 20 or 30 feet above the house here - they're actually quite annoying if you're trying to talk on the phone," he said.
"We didn't take any notice of it. There was obviously no great crash or anything. It was a kilometre away, so we didn't take any notice to it."
He says residents are being warned to stay away.
"Our fire brigade secretary was the one who rang and said that it had gone down and we've been directed not to go near it."
