What an absolutely filthy day out yesterday up and down the east coast. Probably the biggest light show I've had the "pleasure" of flying in/around, whilst going up to Brisbane and back. Ended up holding over Cooly (sorry, "Gold Coast") for nearly an hour before making an approach to a very wet BNE 01. Lots of ongoing lightning strikes just outside the airport. A couple of absolute monster cells on the coast around Coffs. Back to SYD another monster build-up around Inverell/Armidale, we'd already diverted inland out of BNE and thus ended up a third of the way to ADL before being able to track direct SYD (turned somewhere Walgett)....

And does anyone know how DJ245 got on in the end? He was courageously holding on the 19 localiser, looking at shooting the 19 ILS while the wind had gone southerly, then ultimately was looking for a circuit around onto 01. Gutsy effort, guys. Did you get in or end up in Cooly (where it was CAVOK)?

Anyone else got a good story?

This week they are very definitely fuel-tanks, not air-tanks.... :ok:

Ah, yes, but isn't the rain wonderful for country that has been in drought for so long? :ok:

****su,

Yes, and it is these same death-wish lighty types that have been charged, by Dick and John, with the safe operation of our terminal airspace. But then let's not turn this thread into a NAS-basher shall we?!

A (longish) hold is more preferable to a divert: you'll lose much more time on the schedule by diverting, especially if it's a base you don't normally go to.

Had an exciting time getting out of sydney on friday night - cells all over the place. From bankstown I went east, south, west ,northwest, then southwest and ended up clear of the cells around KEDDY. The sydney departure controller was doing a magnificent job handling all the diversions.

The ole stormscope was a sea of crosses...
