An Air Canada flight to Edmonton made a precautionary landing in Winnipeg after an electrical odor was noticed in a lavatory, an airline spokesperson says.

"It was an odour, a strong odour," Laura Cooke told CTV Newsnet, adding she didn't know whether it was passengers or crew who discovered it.

The plane landed without incident, she said.

Christine Alongi, a Winnipeg Airport Authority spokesperson, told Newsnet the smoke originated in the cockpit, but Cooke said that was false.

The Airbus 319 aircraft was en route from Toronto. It touched down at 6:05 p.m. ET. Alongi said she couldn't say how many people were on board because privacy laws protect such information.

Cooke said they hoped to have the affected passengers on a later flight to Edmonton.

The affected aircraft has been pulled from service until Air Canada's maintenance staff can examine it, she said.

AC and the rest of us learned from their tragic lav fire in CVG twenty years ago - get it on the ground ASAP, even if you think the fire is out.
