Hi there, can anyone at Manch ATC shed light on why 06L became prefered runway during LVP's, RVRs down to 300m.The wind was Nw'ly 3kts or so so no real wind factor. The reason I ask is that CATII approaches onto 06L exclude Cat C and D aircraft, thus sending us into the hold at Mirsi for 45mins.I personally couldn't work out why 24R wasn't used, allowing us all the option of a CATII approach.I understand that some WIP was taking palce at the 24R end,but doesn't that usually stop in LVP conditions.
Not a moan,just curious

To try and answer you question. Firstly the wind made no difference to the rwy in use this morning, it was the IRVR.From what I can remeber the 06L T/D IRVR was nearly always greater tan the 24R IRVR.We do not get involved what category an acft is to to determine the rwy in use, life would get to complicated.

The rwy in use is determined mainly by which one has the best T/D IRVR.

Hope that answers your question
