CAA have now released provisional December and 2003 totals.

The following are all terminal pax (no transits)

Stansted has finally overtaken Manchester on monthly passenger numbers.

Heathrow - Dec 5,200,400 up 3.4% - 2003 - 63,208,148 up 0.3%

Gatwick - Dec 1,957,877 up 3.9% - 2003 - 29,894,192 up 1.3%

Manchester - Dec 1,219,411 up 12.3% - 2003 - 19,522,071 up 4.9%

Stansted - Dec 1,550,144 up 21.4% - 2003 - 18,717,149 up 16.6%

I assume the recent grading of NATS ATC units takes this fact into account. Likely to be matching Gatwick on pax per month very soon?

29,894,192 against 18,717,149 passangers in 2003 I doubt it.

Can't speak for the UK controllers, but over here, controllers normally don't care how many pax go through an airport. The only numbers that matter to us are how many aircraft that we handle. Of course, since we get paid by the plane <G>, that would indeed be our interest.

Scott

How much more can Stansted grow before they need the extra runway which is several years away.

Stansted in the winter will always be busier than Manchester as they have very little charter business but come April things change again

Buster,

Do you work in PR?? Talk about massaging figures for a completely untrue title!!

Your figures even back up your untruth....
Ok so SS beat CC in December, as far as I read, CC still win out over the year 2003, so how is Stansted the UK's 3rd busiest airport??

You'll have to excuse BB, callyoushortly. He's the only one around here who massages his prostate by sticking his head up his @ss and turn passenger numbers into some sort of a competition.

His therapist suggests he do this every couple of months, and attempts to ruffle some feathers by, as you so rightly notice, massaging stats in an attempt to get a rise out of somebody (christ knows who!). If you're bored, you can always try and get him started on the Low Cost Carriers debate.

Thing is, he doesn't realise that he's the only person who really gives a sh*t. It's almost like when you're second best, you have to yell louder and try harder. As Scott says, passenger numbers are all fine and good, but movements mean a whole lot more!

What do you recon Buster..............gonna invite me to come visit you and the rest of the zoo animals like last time? I keep telling you dude, I don't subscribe to that sort of thing.

Jerricho wrote that Movements are king...yeah I am paraphrasing but with respect to unit grading and Farnborough (not my base)

another 75000 Lars movements, and approach movements for at least 4 other airfields.

THESE MOVEMENTS ARE UNQUANTIFIABLE so says the guys who did the grading.....go figure ....movement equals big jet? :yuk:

East, so agree with you. Movements don't equate to big jets only.

You would be amazed at the number of people at TC who all agree that the LARS service provided by LF and other LARS units should be considered in the grading debarcle. Also, as has been discussed on other threads (and this isn't throwing sh*t at anybody, so calm down now), LL etc has the luxury of dealing with high hour drivers in Class A airspace, where you guys provide an essential service to low hours guys, and no doubt have helped out many "recreational" pilots who weren't 100% sure of everything going on. For what it's worth (and it ain't much! ;) ), you guys have my utmost respect for that.

If you work backwards from the December figure, taking off the percentage rise, SS must've been higher than CC last December too - so why is it such big news this year?

Good to see the realisation that Stansted is the UK's 3rd busiest airport in Dec 2003 in terms of passenger numbers. Did I mention movements?

Actually, In terms of movements, Buster cannot comment, just passing on HM Govt passenger figures you know.

So in May 2004, Manch will out pace Stansted on terminal passengers? Buster will of course let you all know if it happens.

So why put this in the ATC forum then? Surely it's be more suited in the 'Airlines, Aiports........' forum?

Just curious.

Only reason anyone in ATC would be interested in pax numbers is if the tower's landside and they want to know how busy the terminal's going to be when they pop over for a cup of char!

In terms of movements, Buster cannot comment

As already mentioned, the only movement required is one by Buster to remove his head from his @ss.

Gonze is right (agreeing again), if anybody did care, the Airports forum is the place for this sort of thing Buster.
