As the 'Personal Flying Videos' thread has been a success, what better than to start of a photo thread?

So bring 'em on....

Love to know how to:confused:

ToryBoy,

First you need to upload your photos to a website. Some websites allow you to link to them - others don't.

I use fototime (http://www.fototime.com) which lets you store some pictures free for 30 days and link to them. I'm sure there are lots of other suitable sites.

Once you have done that, click the button marked "IMG" when creating a message, and paste in the url of your photograph. (Easiest way to do this is to right click on the photo on the website that is hosting it, select "properties" and copy the address.) If you use fototime, you can instead click the button marked "create link" and copy the address from the next screen.

It sounds a bit complicated, but it's easy once you've got the hang of it.

Even I can do it sometimes!

For an example of what to post have a look at the brilliant thread on rotorheads called Rotorheads around the world, it really is great.

For posting pictures here you can't go far wrong if you read AF's post and stick to that. You need to put your pictures on the web somewhere. Most internet service providers supply it free if you are a customer. BTinternet give me 50 mgs free space to do what I want with. To get the picture online you can either scan it in and save it or download it direct from your digital camera. Once you have the pictures on your heard drive, you can create a new folder on your desktop called anything, flying photos will do. Put all your pictures in there.

To upload the pictures you need an FTP programme. You can get them free on most pc magazines disks. Cute FTP or Smart FTP are both dead easy, good programmes to use. You simply locate your picture folder usuing the interface in the ftp proggramme and upload them. This is easy too, use the CTRL key on your keyboard as you select each picture, highlight how many you want to upload to your web-space and simply click on upload.

Once your pictures are online, right click the picture, click on properties and then highlight the address and copy it. Go to this thread and click on IMG. A box will appear and simply paste the address into it. Click ok and submit reply and your picture will appear in you post. It seems complicated but honestly, as someone has pointed out, it is so easy when you know how to do it.

I don't think pictures will link from MSN so you will have to out a link to your web page from there.

That's it really, have a go at it for yourself and see how easy it is.

If you are still phased by doing all that then as a last resort or if your ISP do not supply free space then e-mail them to me and I will upload them for you.
Look forward to seeing your pictures soon.

AlanM,

One of your (:ok: nice) pics shows the throttle quadrant with the mixture levers in markedly different positions. Is this normal in twins? Just curious, never having flown in one.

dublinpilot - what's the ruling about flying over central Dublin? Isn't there a rather different wording in the IAA docs about flight over built-up areas? Where would you land if the engine quit? (being from Dublin originally I'm very interested)

Saab,

You must be able to make a safe landing in the event of an engine failure, as distinct from the position in the UK in which you must be able to glide clear of the congested area, if I understand it correctly.

Actually, Dublin is not that big of a place. Generally a transit will be cleared over the river Liffey in my experience. From the west there is plenty of green space until city centre. Pheoonix park would cover you for a bit further, and then after that you are looking at a ditching in the bay. There is probably a minute or two when a ditching in the river is the only option.

Hi Skyyacht,

You can select the size of the photo you're linking to in Fototime - small, medium, or original size. I think you've probably chosen "original size". (Nice photo, by the way. :) Where is it?)

Hi Aerobatic Flyer....

It was taken just as I entered the Fraenschoek Valley, heading up into the mountain passes, not far from Stellenbosch Airport in South Africa.

By The way, I did select Small, on Fototime, but when I right clicked on it, and then hit properties, the web address was there. When I pasted it in onn the "IMG" prompt, all that happened was that it published the link, rather than the photo. I noticed that it didnt appear to have a .jpg extension after it either. I will re attempt with another photo.

Just checked....cracked it! This is the Warrior on the Taxiway at Stellenbosch prior to the mountain flight.....great fun.....

Cheers

Be my guest. The curved runway is an airstrip called Mont Gerbier des Joncs. It's a one-way strip, with a 20% upslope for the first 100m or so, then a bit of a curve to the right and a slight downslope, before levelling out. Going around isn't possible, and crosswinds (like the one we had on the day the photo was taken) can make life very entertaining.

The accident was caused by the right ski on the Jodel hanging down slightly at the frong. It dug into the snow, and flipped the aeroplane onto its back. Moral: do a proper pre-flight check before each take-off, even if you've only stopped for a short time.

Thank you on both counts! The ski plane fly ins will start up here shortly, but hopefully none will end up like the one in your picture!

I don't know if its okay to add this to this collection, plus, as they are not my pictures, I am including the link rather than adding the actual pictures on here but....... This guy takes photos from a kite, and, as the article says, the pictures are on display at the EAA museum at the moment. The pictures taken over the ice are absolutely stunning and well worth taking a look at...

Hello! Here are some pictures I shot when my instructor and I flew down to Le Touquet in the Summer :ok:

1) 'Cap Griz Nes' (http://www.fototime.com/{420EEFD7-D9FB-454E-8AA8-2B0C3ECF9D8C}/picture.JPG)

2) Approaching 'Cap Griz Nes', mid channel (http://www.fototime.com/{3D80ECF6-9815-48A6-8AD4-28F4B462491F}/picture.JPG)

3) Leaving England for a few hours; heading South, position: six miles East of 'Dover Port' (http://www.fototime.com/{233DA15A-E5C1-46D1-B462-EA1BF5614C40}/picture.JPG)

4) Overview of 'Dover Port' (http://www.fototime.com/{CEC2EDFD-ECE1-49AB-AD92-3BD024E34E42}/picture.JPG)

5) 'Boulogne Sur Mer'... wow, last time I was there was four/five years ago on my first school trip... and was at 0 ft. AGL as opposed to 2,500! (http://www.fototime.com/{511241F6-E271-4386-9931-4615938FD8BA}/picture.JPG)

6) The port at 'Boulogne' (http://www.fototime.com/{DA0A0C9F-793A-42D9-89B4-AA126B535322}/picture.JPG)

7) Some beautiful sand formations en route 'Boulogne -> Le Touquet' (http://www.fototime.com/{3C7EE10C-0172-4F8C-9A53-9A0EFA3E98D0}/picture.JPG)

8) 'Zulu November', the fine girl that got us there safely and in which I will be undertaking my first solo in one week's time! (I will discount the close encounter with two fighter jets along the French coast!) (http://www.fototime.com/{E6C9470B-2AC6-4ABF-A0CB-439CE38F6F40}/picture.JPG)

Yes I did. We were lucky enough to be formated (sp) on by these guys on the way back from Kemble a couple of months ago. Fired off half a dozen piccies and reckon not many can match the experience. We were in a Cessna 172 at the time and they were in a huge orbit waiting to display at Lyneham we believe. We were lucky sods that day

With regards to the 747 landing pics, I had an email with the same at work, along with this narrative:

"The importance of landing on centreline cannot be underestimated. Who needs a 150' or 200' wide strip? Actual shots are from a fairly impressive landing operation.

One of SAA's first B-747s retiring to Rand Airport, South Africa
(elevation 5568 feet with 4898 long x 50 feet wide runway!). The 747-100 outer-to-outer main gear tire width is 41.33 ft.
Empty aircraft Vref was 115 kts!

Right on the center line. An inch is as good as a mile. Nice work."

Just a couple:
This one is from just south of the Auckland control zone, overhead the Limestone Downs aerodrome. This is looking down the North Island's west coast. The hill in the background can be seen on the extreme left of the next pic.
http://www.geocities.com/globallink_express/limestonedowns.jpg

This one is taken near the west coast township of Raglan. It's about two hours south of Auckland by car but has a grass runway, seen just above the centre of the picture, pointing almost directly at us. The camp ground is toward the near end of that peninsula.
