Can someone please clarify the IMC Rating privileges for me, please?

Most are straightforward but I’ve seen references to the following in some places but not in others!

Carrying passengers above 3000ft amsl in IMC or in flight visibility less than 5km at or below that height when outside controlled airspace

Many thanks

Never seen any restrictions like those.

The IMC rating removes the restriction on flight in Class D and E airspace in conditions where compliance with IFR is required. It also removes the restrictions on flight in less than 3km viz, or out of sight of the surface. And that's about all. Additionally, there are recommended minima for approaches, but these are only recommended.

Full details are in LASORS, Section A, Appendix F (http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/175/Lasors_Section_A.pdf), on page 66.

FFF & Beagle – thanks for the info.

A search of ‘IMC rating privileges’ on Google throws up more than one training school who might be confused too……..
