What do you think is the nicest looking jet airliner that one can see over our heads today in Australia and/or the rest of the world?

Remember nicest looking not necessarily nicest to fly!

I think the DC-9/B717

Would have to be the 727 :ok:

Amen stooge.

The 727 looked like it just wanted to do Mach 0.89 - and that was at the gate!

Almost brings back the memories......."Set crackle power !"

And it had the looks and the noise to go with it.

I'll go thirds.

The 72 is IMO the horniest looking aircraft ever built.

VC10 isn't far behind, yet the Trident didn't have the correct aesthetic proportions, even if it is rear engined.

727 without a doubt. With the gear up one of the greatest looking aircraft in flight ever. Nothing like the sight of the early 100's with a huge plume of black smoke following it and the crackle only the 727 could make

agreed...

honourable mention however to the A330.

Yes the 727 wins in appearances.

Most fun was the F28.

Most user friendly these days is probably the triple 7!

Nice to see most of us agree for once. The 727 by far. Pitty not more of them flying in oz today. :ok:

No contest! MD11 i sstreets in front. With the nosewheel 30feet back from the point it is an imposing look ing bit of machinery. At teh risk if bringing sex into it, it looks like a huge phallus.
The record of its predecessor wasn t good but we are only talkingabout looks.

Have to agree that the 727 is the one.

Caravelle not bad either, in a French sort of way

I wonder if we will ever see the day when VB- Capt will post a sober post instead of his usual "as drunk as a skunk post"! :(

It's been too long since I last saw a 727-200 so I'm going to say the MD11 followed by the A340 and CRJ:) .

amos is obviously looking for a scrap. Well my friend, I'm a pilot not a typist and obviously don't spend as much timet rawling these forums as you do and responding with provocative trivia/garbage.
So if you're looking for a bigger bite look elsewhere. I'm not such an easy mark as some of the others you have rubbed up with your semi intelligent rubbish. Perhaps that should be unintelligent rubbish??
I've taken a little more time with this post, and you will be happy to see there are fewer typos.

The F-4G. I doesn't get any prettier!!!
I realise she is not an airliner, just thought I would throw it in amongst all those B727 fans so you could have a pretty stick (opposite of an ugly stick) to judge the level of beauty by.:D

Hope everyone has a great new years and safe flying for 2004

OK, I'll agree the 727-200 is a helluva fast-looking thunderstick, but I have a great fondness for the good old Diesel Ten, precursor of the Mad Dog 11.

Douglas always did build a very strong airframe. How many DC-10s and MD-11s will still be flying freight, 50 years after they rolled off the line? Quite a few, I reckon. But, as the saying goes, when they go to the boneyards, their crews will pax back in a 727!

Well, having spent some time on the jump seat of a DC9-31, I would have to nominate that aircraft - once referred to by an Ansett captain as, "Queen of the Skies!"

I might add that all the Fokker family - F27 and up - are among my favourites too! :)

What about (the) CONCORDE...ooopps, I see Amos has already listed it.
What a spoof machine, with its droop nose, sleek fuse, and amazing performance for an aircraft designed in the 1960's!!

BTW, Zarg, the "Queen of the Skies" title was - from my hazy, long ago Ansett days...1978-1989 - awarded to the72. But then you probably pre-date me!!:}

The Diesel and the 72 were both pilots' dreams as far as "things" working (speedbrake effectiveness, flap/slat retraction speed...all the noise down the back) were concerned.
The 73-100 was the sports car model of the 73's - a hot little ship.

From a pilots' point of view, imo, McDonnell Douglas built aircraft for pilots - Boeing built them agriculturally...basically a "people mover".

Think outside the box boys...

What about the Tu 154. Now that thing is good looking in a pig dog kind of way, looks like it means business and its gonna do it regardless. Kind of daunting looking too with the agricultural landing gear and slight wing anhedral.

Wouldn't want to fly one though.

The B727 for airliners, though the 757 is a very close second.
DA20 for the bizjet mob, prettier that the 50 or 900.

While Douglas might build stout planes, the countryside is littered with Long Beach aluminum. MD-11 stood for More Death and has it lived up to the name, in spades. Only plane to get a Page One article in the Wall St Journal for crashing.

The Galaxy is nice, comfortable, easy to fly, but less reliable than a Lucas refridgerator. Much less! British sports envy our departure reliability. Better reliability and look out world, here we come at M.77. Fecking Ridiculous Economic Disaster, the FRED is.

My two cents, GF

As for the civies, gotta agree with the consensus, the 727, especially the one with winglets!! MD-11 a close second.

What about the sexiest turboprop? MU-2 for starters.

I think it must be the B707. Never flown one but it sure looked nice.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the CRJ/Global Express family...

I always thought the CRJ was way too sexy to be a pax machine - I reckon it always looked like someone's private jet parked at the gate.

Although it's not an airliner, the Global Express probably just gets the nod over the CRJ as it sits just a little higher off the ground from memory, giving it a bit more of a ballsy appearance.

I've changed my mind. the 737 classic is bloody nice but those CRJ's are a very nice piece of kit :)

Some interesting replies, the TU-154!! wow,

I think from the number of replies the 727 is the winner, However I think Kaptin M summed it up very nicely with:
"From a pilots' point of view, imo, McDonnell Douglas built aircraft for pilots - Boeing built them agriculturally...basically a "people mover".

I think we can award the DC-9 as second place or the 717!:ok:

5. B707
6. B727-100
7.Il-62 (Looks like a Thunderbirds extra)

Concorde No substitute.

For the subsonics

No 1 for me is MD11. Wish I had a chance to fly it.
Close second 727 (It must be a 3 hole thing)

Must admit I really like the new Embraer 170 looks like a lot of fun.

Most fun to fly Shorts 360. What a machine

Maybe I'm showing my age but I'm surprised only one other has mentioned the SUD Caravelle. A beautiful aircraft - I guess the French had to get one thing right. Worth a hunt for a picture if anyone can find one. First built in 1958 - similar to early DC9's but a bit slower and nearly ten years earlier. Had a mid mounted tail which was unusual. But really only three aircraft give me a **rdon - P51, Avon Sabre and B727. I dream on!!

TheNightOwl
17th Jan 2004, 05:25
Whilst I would agree with the 722 as the prettiest, I believe the DC8, especially the stretched version, comes a close second, if not 1st equal.

Kind regards,

TheNightOwl.:ok:
