Anyone who has ever used the simulator at LTCC over the past dozen or so years will no doubt have come into contact with Reg Philips.
Tragically, Reg was found dead near his home on Sunday.
He always retained his wonderful sense of humour despite some fairly hefty personal issues and would literally walk to the end of the earth and back for anyone he knew.
A mine of useful (and some not so useful!) information, Reg was one of the good guys and will never be forgotton by those who new him.
The world of aviation will be a poorer place without him.

I don't recognise the name but Reg must have been one of the unsung heroes who went through hell during my emergency training sessions.

What sad news...
Reg was always a friendly face and voice to all of us who went through the simulator at LATCC/LTCC as students. I will never forget his ability to provide Polish, American, English and numerous other accents during busy simulator sessions, whilst always maintaining his professionalism and keeping up with his tasks.
He will be sadly missed and those who have yet to pass through the system as students will be worse off for his absence.

Reg Phillips was undoubtedly one of the kindest, most loyal, most hard working and professional blokes I've ever known. You always 'got what you saw' with Reg - he was a credit to NATS and will be greatly missed , I'm sure, by all those who knew him. My condolences to his family and friends. May God rest his soul.
Reg will be missed by many people within the TC Training Section, and an awful lot of ATCO's who have experienced his own unqiue way of working; a man who really put his heart into his job - even if sometimes we didn't appreciate it as much as we should have. Gone but really not forgotten.

A very sad, sad loss.
I worked with Reg for the last 10 years of my career which was spent in TC Training. A truly professional man always willing to go the extra mile when I asked him (as did all the ACPOs) His knowledge of Aviation and Aviation Trivia was encyclopaedic. He will be hard to replace. I doubt he ever will.

Its allready been said in previous posts, but I want to say it again Reg was a real nice chap, and he will be missed by many people.
Just when he was getting things together this happens, life is a bitch!

I remember Reg when he first arrived at LATCC. He was one of the few true gentlemen in the organisation and is a sad loss to all those who knew him.

I once sat round the back of the sim with the drivers and listened to Reg doing all his famous accents, he was hoot, funny and so professional at the same time. So sorry to here he's gone, he'll be greatly missed.

Having known Reg for a long time now, and having seen him go downhill over many months, death must have come as a big relief for him. After all the things that had happened in his life which caused him so much distress and unhappiness, he remained to all, the kindest and most helpful man I have probably ever known.
I have just returned from his funeral and feel empty, cold and emotionless. It sadly focused more on the more negative apsects and little on his so many positive attributes.
He deserved far more than that.
He will be greatly missed. Sleep well mate...

Like everybody else I shall miss Reg to.
Whilst on my TVC last year we would all be sat in the smoking room and some of the weird and wonderful stories Reg told, makes me smile just to think about them.
Such a soft and gentle man and a very great loss.
I was stood on the balcony at TC last cycle on a night shift and I looked down at the new sim, I remember how excited Reg was when it opened. I couldn't help but shed a few tears, mad but true.
I have never met such a kind, considerate and well manner guy.

As I read through the previous posts its gratifying to see that Reg was as highly thought of by people outside the sim as he was by those he worked with. With working in Southampton I suppose I was fortunate in not witnessing Reg's decline and it came with an almost surreal shock to learn of his passing away. Like Snug I returned from his funeral with very mixed feelings, it was wonderful to see so many from NATS turn out to say goodbye to Reg but it was sadly marred by comments given in the Eulogy. Few deserve to end their days alone and in turmoil and especially a man of the calibre of Reg Phillips, I for one will still retain a mental picture of Reg sitting in the smoking room waxing lyrical on the many intricacies of the Rolls Royce RB2-11 engine!
