Does anyone know of any restrictions on flying into Filton next wednesdy?

I was thinking of flying in in the morning to watch our white bird land for the final time..:ok: http://www.concordesst.com/pictures/recent/216.jpg

You definately need to check the NOTAMs, and be aware that there will almost certainly be a short display by something (NOT Concorde, I repeat NOT CONCORDE!!!!!!!)

I'm sure the last thing Filton ATC need on the day is to be over-run with light aircraft calling up un-announced, especially just to fly around and have a look. If you insist, PLEASE give them a call on the telephone before take-off, but please bear in mind my first paragraph..

I'm driving there.

I hear from a couple of people who rang them that they're not accepting any GA movements on Wednesday at all.

Damien B,

I thought that may be the case. Just as well I'm driving there.

From the horses mouth (as it were)

1) There will be NO GA allowed in on the day. Don't even bother phoning to ask as you'll just p:mad:s off the Ops staff ;) (I tried to get a couple of people in and was refused - so not even any perks for the workers).

2) Check the NOTAMS. There may be a TRA in force 10 mile radius butting up to the edge of the Bristol CTR Surface to FL40. This has yet to be confirmed but it's a possibility (we are pushing for it to be approved). Zlin is right - there will be a display but not by Concorde.

Any sneaky word on what the display will be? Ohhh goo onn, we won't tell. ;)

I know Concorde is routeing directly over RAF Lyneham, so was kind of getting all hopeful that it might have some following traffic.

Display? Well what's historic and based at Filton with RR?

paulo
23rd Nov 2003, 01:24
Aaaahh ok, so the Spitfire stories are true then. Cool (although the Reds would have been nice, but hey ho)

DamienB
23rd Nov 2003, 02:58
Yes, Reds would have been nice... but then BA seemed to have blown every possible opportunity to retire the old girl in style, so it's hardly a surprise.

Damien - Yeah, too true. And BAA blew a great chance on the 24th. They could have subbed out some car parks (the ones they closed anyway) to an event promotions company and easily seated 20,000.

By the way, are you going to pop into TGM one of these days? You're fast becoming part of retirement history, which is worth at least a pint of my money! :)

Well gawd nobody said there would be free beer before or I'd have been camped on the doorstep!!

Also be aware that ground access to Filton is going to be heavily restricted. On the BBC West news on Friday the Police strongly advise those thinking of going to use public transport and watch from the designated vantage points

A "Grand day out", as Wallace & Grommit would put it!

Nice to see the old girl on her last ever flight, even the WX was reasonable on the day..Shame about the hail showers though...Brrrrrrrrrrrr

How was it for you Damien B? Got any good pics?

It was indeed a grand day out, but heavily tinged with sadness.

Was great to see. But a real shame. Irreplacable.

(Pity the first flypast wasn't low-level, down the runway, with full reheat RIAT style!)

It was a grand day out. Got rained on, hailed on and very wet!

I stood on the A38 by the 27 threshold. Not many photos, just wanted to watch, not look through a viewfinder. Great that Les Broadie taxied the aircraft all the way back to the east end on the runway and just stood there, lowering and raising the nose. Thank you, Sir.

A few photos here www.stevelevien.com/concorde.htm

A very sad day, but glad I was there. One for the grandchildren.

Sorry chaps being a bit slow with the pics as a major camera malfunction did its best to destroy around 150 of them. Thankfully 5 hours of effort (mostly swearing very loudly) recovered all but a handful but left me with no time to put together a selection last night. Will try and get it done tonight, look in the aviation history & nostalgia forum later.

Thanks for sharing the pictures Steve and I'm looking forward to see what Damiens managed to salvage.

I got absolutely soaked at LHR yesterday but it was well worth it just to hear and feel those engines roar for the last time.

To everyone who has posted pictures/audio/video over that last few weeks, many many thanks.

She will be sadly missed; BA are now just another airline, and LHR has lost a major attraction.

I wasn't there sadly but a chum who was asked the question...

"Any idea why the registration, G-BOAF, is correctly shown on the aft fuselage but is shown as G-BOAC on the underside of the wing?"

A cut and shut!

But is this going to be the last flight of Concorde?

I,ve heard the sims not up for sale?

I've put a selection of piccies in the aviation history & nostalgia forum (http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=110369) (and bcfc, your friend was mistaken - it's BOAF underwing too).

Just thought I'd mention that I saw G-BOAD looking particularly forlorn and out of place on a barge at Pier 86 in New York this morning. It appears she'll spend the rest of her days as an exhibit here. (http://www.intrepidmuseum.org)

She joins a load of US/UK military aircraft on display and I hope she's looked after better that the others. The rest look very weather beaten and tatty.

At one point, I could look at a Harrier and Concorde at the same time - we have made some beautiful aircraft in our time.
