Ummmm - that's not a RAT - that's a gas turbine engine.

Umm- well the manufacturer calls it a Ramjet engine and appeared to me to differentiate it from a gas-turbine engine. So if you are right, tell them as well as us !!!

The Ram Air Turbine is a airstream driven generator that drops from the bottom of an Airbus fuselage to provide emergency power in the event of both engine driven generators failing.

B757 & 767 use then too,
jolly useful they are too..
check out the canadian incident when
a 767 ran out of fuel,
the RAT provides essential hydraulic
pressure to maitain flight control
authority, which is really rather a nice thing to have when the donkeys have just quit
& the hyd' press' is falling !!!

thumbs up for RATS I say...

B777 RAT provides hydraulics AND electrics.

Always nice to have a RAT behind you when it goes quiet.....

Love the Random bit!

Must come from the same silly-season stable as the leader in today's Times which droned on knowledgeably about the dangers of (nuclear) "Neutrally Assured Destruction"!

There's nothing like getting the terminology right, is there?
