I recon you'll be extremly disapointed, especially on the latter.

How about placing an ad in one of the flyimg Magazines?

I guess you may find some on E-Bay but not 2 at once.

I think you will be very lucky to find them 2nd hand. Once bought you never want to give them up!!

I think the Bose is a better headset than the DC if only in weight and funky looks!

There was a link posted on these forums a while back about 2nd hand pilot equipment, could even have been aircraft for sale too, well I picked myself up a nice set of DC H10.13's for 180 squid :p that had only 2 hrs usage :D, so I now have 2 sets and saved myself 50 squid in the meantime :p

I've read a lot of reviews on the DC 13.4 and heard from people that its very good - does everyone agree? I dont want to go spending what could be a couple of hours flying on a headset if its not worth it :P

Is it worth buying my own headset or just using the flying schools? The ones i'm lending at the moment are bloody uncomfortable but do the job.

Also, is it compatible with most other headset types?

A search on this forum for "David Clark" will get a lot of hits :ok:

To cut a long story short, most people recommend them, some recommend something else and someone usually says that DC-wearers are a bunch of :mad: :mad: :mad:ers. Bit like most threads :) I've got a pair, very happy with them.

The DC headsets are superb quality but very heavy. I tried virtually all of the active noice cancelling headsets before ending up with the BOSE. It is half the weight and incredibly comfortable.

Worth every penny.

I use DC's and I find them very comfortable. I do appreciate that the Bose sets are physically much lighter, and I am lead to believe, by someone I fly with regularly - he has not let me try them out yet so who knows??, that they perform very well at their job, probably the best around. It is a cost thing I spose, I guess that if you are after second hand then you are after saving money, which I think rules out the Bose.
I know what you mean about club sets, they never seem to fit, they always line up with my upper neck not my ears, not matter what you do with em, where do you get headsets that are that uncomfortable, it must be a flying club only shop!

For anyone considering buying Bose: get used to carrying spare batteries!

My IFR instructor had one and although he considered it the best there is, it suddenly went to a piece of crap everytime the battery went dead, so its best to carry a spare. When the active dies on a DC at least you'll still have a decent passive headset, but the Bose without active noise reduction is nothing to write home about.

I tried the bose with the active turned off and to be honest did not see any diference between that and the cheap school headsets. Granted it is not as good as a really solid passive only headset. But I guess that where you win over the others as the headset weighs virtually nothing. It also shows you the status of the battery and the LED flashed red/green for several hours to show the battery needs replacing then flashes RED for another FIVE hours after that. Pretty hard to have it go flat if you do your "preflight" checks!

The new cable and battery box takes 2xaa batteries and last 80-100 hrs with intellisense that powers the headset down automatically as well.

Cutoff, I let you fly my plane, one day the headset, one day....

Looks like they did a lot of improving on the set since the one I saw. Guess my observations do not apply to the newer versions then.

Still, for me the main drawback of the Bose remains the price. I'm still happy with my cheapie ANR.
