Hi there,

Could someone explain what the memory device is on the B737s control column. How and what is it used for?

If you mean the 3 digit thing on the top of the yoke:

We put the flight number on it, although we get more and more 4 digit flight numbers http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/frown.gif . I believe some company's put the cleared flight level on it.

I use it for V2, MSA's and Vref.

That's when it's usable and not all scratched and illegible!

Well NB, we use it for whatever that needs to be rembered. Be it the cleared level, hdg,V2...etc etc. You get the picture. I don't believe that Mr Boeing had something particular in mind when that was thrown in. The B744's and the B777 don't seem to have them though.
No so sure about the new gen B737...

The 737NG's also have memory devices.We use
them for flight number,v1,Vref etc.

We use ours to set V2 and Vref. After takeoff and when the checks are done I set the flight number on it.

Just for curiosity sake...is that a Company Standard Procedure or one which you guys have come up with?

By the way, how does the NG 737 handles? Better then the 3/4/5's ?

Today I used it to count the number of times my Effo picked his nose on a vice versa to Kiev. No Casio man, this is not in our Standard Operating Procedures.

For some strange reason they were included in the LAME training course as Indicating and Recording devices - ATA Chapter 31. So they were Avionics! http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/confused.gif

We were taught that they were for recording the cleared flight level, but I see that you cunning pilot types have found plenty more uses for them :)
