Hello,

I've seen several TCAS/Transponder control panels with a 3-position switch marked A-N-B (N is the center postion). The maintenance manual says this switch is for "Above-Normal-Below" but that's it!
Anyone know what it is for?

Its TCAS display volume for 'Other Traffic' blips.

Typical values would be.

N for Normal values are +/- 2,700 feet.

A for Above would display -2,700 to + 9,900'.

B for Below would display -9,900 to +2,700'.

The precise values are equipment specific. I've seen 8,000' as the deeper limit.

Crucial Points:

1. This is DISPLAY volume only, and has no bearing on TCAS tracking / collision avoidance.

2. It only affects OTHER TRAFFIC blips. Proximate Traffic, Traffic Advisory and Resolution Advisory blips are always shown, regardless of display volume selection.
