I have a quick question about engines and overhauls. In an aircraft systems class we are discussing engines. The question was brought up on how many times an aircraft engine can be overhauled. My professor didn't have a definitive answer because he does not have an A and P. I know that in general Continential and Lycoming are the two basic engines and may be diffrent. I guess what I am looking for is on average how many times the average engine is overhauled.

I asked this over at the private flying forum, and they didn't have a difinitive answer and suggested ask an engineer.

Thank you for you help.

Hello Double_r,
Many commercial jet powerplants are leased, and are overhauled according to manufacturer determined schedules (barring overheats or vibration problems).
If I were you, I'd post this question in the 'Engineers & Technicians' forum also; you're more likely to get more specific information over there (maybe even put "Attn: Genghis" in the subject line; he'll know). Good luck!
