Does anyone know if FlyBE are scrapping the EXT-MAN route in order to operate EXT-LCY?
EXT-MAN ticket sales seem to end on Oct 25th, which is right before the LCY route is due to start (and the 3 rotations a day on each would presumably equate to the same aircraft utilisation?) I hope not as I use EXT-MAN quite regularly, but it does seem a coincidence! |
The MAN route won't disappear it is too popular and reliant on for staff to travel around the network. Winter schedule hasn't been released yet that's all

I wish they'd hurry up, as trying to book an Etihad EXT-MAN-AUH for the end of October! Another annoyance is that when MAN-AUH moves an hour earlier when the clocks change at the end of Oct, the early EXT-MAN doesn't follow it to keep that a legal connection! |

Aplogies. I just assumed you knew what I meant in terms of MAN, my bad. It was of course BA but the point is, it was a staff shuttle with little profitable revenue flowing in. Sorry about the head, that must hurt.

Just correct beans post - Flybe DID operate a EXT-LGW-EXT service for a short while in about 2002-2003 using a charterd in Piper Navajo. It was operated in order to keep the slots going.

We are not flying around everywhere at 200 kts! We fly an appropriate speed to ensure we arrive at our destination on schedule. As wingo wango said, the schedule is king. If we can be efficient while working to the schedule then that's a bonus, is it not?
There is no ops or management pressure and it is purely down to the discretion of the operating crew on the day. |

I'm not singling you out 1013. The fact is operating the Dash inefficiently was ingrained in the Dash culture and indeed some of it was SOP.
850 MCL and pitch 5 made it go fast but it wasn't as efficient as it could be. That's the way I was taught to fly it and I'm sure you were taught that way too. It was never difficult to realise that if you were ahead of schedule and you slowed down a bit you'd save some fuel, even before this new fuel efficiency push. |

What's petty about stating a fact? Even if you don't like that fact it remains a fact. 1013, I take it you disagree and that the Dash wasn't flown that way?
Talking about professional - I also know for a fact that I wasn't the only one to try and save a bit of fuel, there's nothing particular clever or great about it and it was and is our job to do it. Sadly in the face of overwhelming barber's pole monkeys it was but a small drop in the pond. |

The previous Flybe thread was closed down, in part due to petty squabbles and the inability of some to simply have an informed discussion without descending to the kind of conversation you find in a primary school playground. Are we seriously saying that by Page 7, this one has descended to the same depths?!? We all have an opinion and thats fair enough, but if you're not prepared to accept someone elses then perhaps this isn't the place for you to air your contribution. |

I recall the previous operations of Flybe out of London City when they operated to Belfast and Edinburgh, plus others. Loads were thin and it didn't last too long. Edinburgh was consolidated onto a codeshare with Scot Airways, while Belfast was given up. On Belfast loads (in a Dash 8-300) were typically down in single figures when I was on board. This was of course in the days before huge APD etc.
I wonder why the management believe now that things will be different. Are any of the old team who looked at the loads and revenue in board meetings, and decided it was a no-hoper, still around to pass on these experiences ? |
You have hit the nail on the head there WHBM. The old guard (not Strong, he was promoted way above his station), know all about Lucy ops, this new bunch of paper pushing monkeys, don't.
BHD will NOT work, period. EDI will only work if the price is right, and even then it's doubtful. All the talk about code shares with BA, dream on. :rolleyes: INV, pissing off the Sneckies is never a good idea, flybe is now a rude word in those parts, most will now fly with the 'savour' airline, Sleazy. EXT not sure on this one, guess it depends on what happens with the PSO from Newquay, if that goes to another operator, then maybe there is a chance. It will be interesting for sure, but I feel for the wrong reasons. :* |
