All the crew who were due for the chop have been told their jobs are safe.

Pretty sure the company now short of crew with plenty of resignations in the pipeline. Mainly down to BA and other airlines hiring.

Nubboy 4th October 2010 12:12

Is "crew" generic, or are you referring to cabin or flight deck?
Not seen any news of actual recruitmment for DEP at BA yet.

BusDriver947 5th October 2010 06:59

Cabin Crew. BA have been hiring.

Rumour also is that BA will recruit approx 70 DEP soon.

Nubboy 5th October 2010 08:34

Thanks for that. Looking on the terms and endearment forum it seems BA have opened up for Direct Entry type rated experienced pilots.
Good luck guys (a non gender specific term encompassing all sexes and orientations ), get stuck in:ok: , whichever side of the door you work

Cairo rights decision and A330 news

The LON-Cairo Winter 2010/11 rights decision has been made by the CAA. bmi retain 4xWeekly UK rights, but don't get the extra 3 they wanted. Not sure how common knowledge this is, but bmi are currently using 3 weekly Egyptian rights on LHR-CAI. In return bmi are providing financial consideration and letting Egyptair use an LHR slot for a nominal sum. Egyptair are apparently negotiating for a further LHR slot

Also noteworthy is that in it's evidence to the CAA, bmi said an A330 would become available in March 2011 that could possibly be used on LHR-CAI. Does that mean bmi could be geting an extra A330 next summer, or are changes to Saudi services being considered?

A quick Google suggests that the 330 leased to Turkish should return in March.

bmybaby81 6th October 2010 01:20

bmi wanted to keep its options open about starting up new routes across the atlantic but the new ceo made it clear that it needs to be done at the right time and was not willing to take bmi's previous trial and error approach this time round. He suggested that there would need to be a fair amount of codesharing with fellow star carriers especially the u.s ones to reduce any risks of failure.
While bmi looked at their options they decided to lease their 2nd a330 to turkish airlines which would bring in guaranteed revenue until march 2011 instead of continuing to make a loss on the cai and tlv routes which the a330 previously operated on.
There are still rumours floating around about bmi accquiring a few of sister airline swiss current a330's when they start getting their new deliveries, anyone got any more info on this?

sas319 6th October 2010 06:05

I think the wet lease agreements plug holes rather than earn money.

No time to read it all now, but in this !!!!!!!!!!!!!! thread

Where Will The Swiss A330-200 Go? — Civil Aviation Forum | !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the 'retiring' 330s seem to all have new homes.. none of which are at Heathrow. But this is not written by Swiss authorities of course...

cabincrew08 6th October 2010 22:32

Wonder if there any new routes for bmi

sas319 7th October 2010 18:26

Will the A321s on order (2?) still be delivered and will they supplement or replace however many of the G-MED* A321s?

News today about the current losses....

Well Sam it seems to be working, bmi/British Midland were profitable in the 3 rd quarter, sadly no split on which bits of it made/lost money

Can anyone in the know enlighten me as to what service is offered in economy on BMI routes to Berlin? I believe that it is operated on behalf of Lufthansa. Is that correct? Is it a complementary service?

In economy you get a sandwich or a panini, depending on the time of day plus your choice of a drink in economy. If you waste your money paying business, you get a spare seat next to you and a barely warm meal and last Saturday, a grudgingly offered drink..one. BMI's routes to Vienna and Berlin are in their own name, so you get BMI service, not LH's
