A few years ago I worked briefly for bmi. During that time I met many LH people, all of them very skilled and very disciplined. I was intrigued that they all loathed Donington Hall. I had worked in airlines for 25+ years but I found bmi to be completely amateur. I think that the LH loathing of Donington Hall must have made it very difficult to get a grip on what seemed to me to be a very poorly managed business.

The cabin product may be wonderful, and the aeroplanes may be the cleanest in town, the problem with bmi, is as the last couple of posts allude to, is the management.

The company haemorrhages cash and they have little idea where it goes. The levels of loss are beyond redemption now. DLH have poured more than a BILLION euros into the blackhole that is Donington Hall. The shareholders cannot and will not stand for it. Painful to say but, bmi as we know it is dead.

I would agree with Facelookbovvered that the outlook for BMI is better than it has been... ALA/ATQ, FNA, GYD are doing well, RAK, AGA, CAI, AMM, BEY and IKA, JED, DME, KRT, ADD very healthy loads (although i dont know the yield).

Plus with more focus away from shorthaul and more North African, midhaul destinations BD has a good chance of turning a breaking even at least in the near future now some of the arab resolutions have passed.

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

Why, what's happened today? My jungle drums are just full of depressed people wondering if the company will exist by the end of the year.

Today it was officially announced that bmi regional will become a new standalone airline with new owners/shareholders, Good luck and well done guys!

stormin norman 28th October 2011 11:22

The fact that the BMI group is up for sale will deter a lot of people making advanced bookings.

Do you have a source for this?

LH hasn't released anything.

Doug E Style 28th October 2011 11:54

It's true. Just read company memo myself from WPS himself.

BMI Regional

I too would like confirmation and as much information as possible.

If it cant be posted please message me.

Confirmation of source
When is this in effect?
Job losses?
Aircraft lease status?
Route changes?

You cant just make a blind statement that an airline has been sold without some further information! Or at the very least a link to an outside source.

Cheers

The aim is to complete the transaction as a share sale by the end of November. Regional will continue operating as it does now under the bd calsign. The winter program will run as planned. All of the staff will be retained as well as equipment and leases, as it is a share sale. The consultation process has begun with the respective employee groups.
Is that enough of a para phrase?

Best news for regional that could have been possible.

Thanks for further info.

Onwards and upwards for Regional!

LD12986 28th October 2011 12:54

I've now seen the memo elsewhere. Slightly unusual for the deal to be announced to staff before it has exchanged.

sealink 28th October 2011 13:02

Best possible outcome is correct. The airline will continue as normal. No job losses which is good. Read the memo also..... Is this the first of the " 3 " sales ?? PS glad to see the company keeping the staff informed first.

Boeing Junkie 28th October 2011 13:06

As SLF and a big fan of Regional, I sincerely hope that they prosper under the new ownership.

It breaks my heart that an airline that provided great customer service and a great product has been reduced to this by some really daft decisions/circumstances over the years.

Good luck to all at bmi's other divisions over the coming weeks.

xwindflirt 28th October 2011 13:06

There was a change in the law recently. Once a formal offer has been made the employees have to be informed within 28 days.

Is this going to be called Business Air by any chance. Haha talk about going full circle :ugh:

Seriously though, that's great news for all the employees. I see them doing VERY well in the future.

:ok:
