flybe JER s10

I'm trying to work out where this aircraft comes from; last years was the BHD-CWL-JER-CWL-BHD rotation but next summer the weekday rotations seem to operate 11.15>CWL-JER-CWL<13.45, but all other routes are operating as normal around this service...

Is this part of a bigger flybe plan?

PP ;)

Looking ahead.....

RBS SIX NATIONS AT MILLENIUM STADIUM, CARDIFF. (FEB, MARCH 2010)
With Scotland, France and Italy all playing in these games here, any idea of extra charter flights and timings?
thanks...:ok:

Spotters again

RBS 6 NATIONS

Too be honest i think it's slightly to early to for flights being booked for the 6 Nations.

There has been a large decline in number of movements for these in the last few years. It doesn't really matter if they are home or away as passengers will still need to travel.

For the final game which was a decider last year the airport seemed much quieter than previous years with much smaller aircraft then we have expected from previous years.

Unfortuantly i believe the credit crunch will have an impact but i hope the airport will make the most of the tarmark thats available rather than turn flights away.

Flybe JER 2010

This summer certain rotations were operated by a Jer based aircraft at times and BHD based aircraft on W patterns leaving the BHD as we see it now. I have looked at the times and noticed this.

Tue and Thu rotations originate from CWL
Sat and Sun rotations originate from JER

I would imagine that it will remain either the same as last year or maybe droppped.

My preferance would be to return the BHD as the timings were origionally with x 2 a day 08:55 and evening departure as they seemed very popular especially when the BHD a/c used to operate the CDG.

Spotters ?????

If anyone was spotting, CWL would be the last place to see anything flying eh ?

Info from this site is more forthcoming than CWL itself and is vital to companies based around the airport for forward planning - an alien concept to some.

Cwl - Lpa 23/11/09

Cant see the usual Monday departure from CWL - LPA with TOM on the boards?
Is the TCX to LPA a 320 or 321?

mathers_wales_uk 23rd November 2009 11:56

No Thomson flights operating today.

TCX LPA should be A320 as it is the aircraft partly based at CWL for the winter.

Only TCX flights operate by other aircraft this winter is the Monastir A321 on W Pattern and the Sharm el Sheikh which is operated by a positioning 757 and obviously the Bridgetown early next year on the A330

Welsh Bobby 23rd November 2009 16:02

Thought the TOM LPA was all winter(as well as all summer)?

TFLYCREW 23rd November 2009 16:45

the TOM lpa has stopped for a couple of weeks until 21st dec when it starts again. Also from mid feb there will be an extra TOM departure to SSH and TFS a week.

Welsh Bobby 23rd November 2009 17:11

Thanks TFLYCREW.
Will the 752 be returning to do these additional flights from Feb? Surprised to see things being down sized to a 738 for the winter- always thought you well filled the 752 at CWL?

Centre cities 23rd November 2009 23:12

Tom

The TOM flights are affected from other airports also, not just CWL.

BHX has several Canaries flights consolidated with TCX apart from the xmas period until they recommence from mid Feb. Also a 738 replacing a 757. A sign of the times.

CWL-VLY

A bit of rubbish being spouted here on this subject, clearly some of it from spotters with no idea whatsoever of how an airline operates.

Hwy only have 2 x J41 and one of which is currently being used as spares
Rubbish. Highland have 2xJ41's. One is operating every day. The other is in heavy maintenance prior to being put on line.

where do you think the highland airways aircraft come from for tech delays? Sumburgh Inverness etc all in the highlands plus longer flying time to reach CWL
Our a/c come from Warton, Cambridge, Bristol or Inverness to cover for a tech a/c. The first three are fairly close to CWL. We have no a/c based in LSI.
Airlines do not have many aircraft lying around waiting to pick up slack covered by tech problems. You want to talk about Saab dispatch reliability talk to the islanders on SYY - they will put you right. It is no better or worse than ours in a J31. We all try our best, but with all the will in the world a/c do break down. Due to the nature of some of our contracts we do have a/c on the ground for large parts of the day which does give us a degree of backup in the worst case. Some other airlines do work their machines harder so may not have the flexibility we have. Interestingly we find the J41 reliability absolutely fantastic. It is more modern than the 31 or SF340 and seems to do well.
Time will tell who carries on the route. Personally I think Highland would love to continue it, and with the infrastructure there in place, albeit with room for improvement I do think it would be the option with the most success and least disruption. We have local crew, all great guys and all comitted to the success of the route.
On an aside the 41 is 40 kts faster than a 340.
As for other routes, this may well be something in progress. Having 29 seats opens up markets which 19 seats makes economically unviable.
But as i say time will tell.

Seven Fifty Seven 25th November 2009 18:48

Err.... J41 entered service 1982 and the SAAB 340 first flew in 1983. Which one is more modern??? I agree though, these aircraft are as good and as bad as each other. At the end of the day it's still 'eighties' technology.

ivor toolbox 25th November 2009 19:00

Someone don't know his 32's from his 41's.

J41 entered service in 1993, 'cos the airline wot I (and others that peruse this topic) was working for back then were one of the launch customers.

Interesting to see the comments on despatch reliability, we worked really hard to get the DR up into the 96%+ bracket over the ten (+) years I was associated with the aeroplane.

I always said it's no worse than any other aeroplane I've been associated with..fact is, all things mechanical break down occasionally, if they didn't I'd be out of a job.

ttfn

ps If yer are putting a 41 into CWL, gissajob!

tallaonehotel 26th November 2009 07:54

Having worked on both airframes I'd say the Saab is by far the more superior machine.
Both aircraft types are being hindered by their age, all of them getting on for 15 years plus.
400+ saab 340 aircraft produced against the 100 J41's speaks volumes.

just my two bob's worth!

mathers_wales_uk 26th November 2009 20:03

Don't get me wrong there is no issue with the Highland Airways service. I just believe other airlines may not waste the oppourtunity of having an aircraft sat on the ground for most of the day and on weekends. My change of operator is a personal opinion based solely on this.

However if Highland Airways decided that they can make routes work with a J41 and utilise the aircraft more then i will be all for them to continue on the route.

I have however i am sure to have seen a Highland Airways position into Cardiff from Sumburgh performing an aircraft swap and then positioned to another location.

james brown 27th November 2009 12:05

J41 getting on for 15 years plus if my memory serves correctly. Saab 340 pushing 25 years old.
Don't judge the capability of an aircraft by how many were built. The most impressive turboprop I have ever had the honour of a jump seat ride in was the Saab 2000, many moons ago in Switzerland. Total built: 63 ish.

Mathers perhaps it's worth considering this. If Highland don't use their aircraft in between rotations there are a lot less potential opportunities for the core business ie the Cardiff-Anglesey to be disrupted by other routes. Someone earlier used Cardiff-Aberdeen as an example. Aberdeen is a long way from CWL if the aircraft went tech, had a slot delay, was grounded by weather and so on. As someone alluded to earlier Airlines do not have fleets of aircraft standing by in order to mount a gallant charge at the first sign of trouble. Thus some might consider it an enormous privilege to have an aircraft and necessary attendant crew and support staff at their sole disposal.

Any one know why the weekly flight to SSH which is normally a 752 has changed to an A320 today? Also - the TOM cruise flight today to Acapulco is via Sanford. Is this for a passenger drop off at SFB or becuase the 763 needs to refuel?
