Jet 2 at STN

Not sure whether there are any plans to expand this side of the business, but would be surprised if they rolled out a mainstream scheduled operation from there simply given the competition in that part of the world.
The South-Eastern part of the North of England catchment area is where they have arguably the least presence and if they are looking to expand, there is some logic to DSA and HUY being on the rumoured 'new base' list. One imagines if MAG have some medium term plan to dispose of HUY, then the investment in getting a low-cost operator established now will probably generate a disproportionate increase in the selling price a few years down the line. After all, an airport with .75m - 1m pax p/a and a based operator is going to be infinitely more attractive than 0.4m and a few summer charters.

Not impossible to get a slice of the action at STN, GSM are doing very nicely.

JET2 flight LBA 2 day 15/12

Hi All Not to sure were to post this one ?

LBA arrivals and departure boards listing this flight out of Leeds to Leeds from 9pm to 00.05 some 3 hrs

LS6118 LEEDS BRADFORD

Any Ideas ??

scamptonboy 15th December 2006 18:30

More than likely a "Northern Lights" flight, one is due to be operated for Omega Holidays today!

682ft AMSL 15th December 2006 20:19

Noticed within the detail of the MAN-PRG route announced today that the Sunday service actually operates on a 'w' leg into MAN. As yet, none of the other UK schedules into PRG show timings to reflect they are the source of this aircraft, which may add fuel to the fire that another base is in the pipeline....and that one of it's destinations will be PRG. Looks like it needs an aircraft away from the UK base at about 12:00 and routes xxx-PRG-MAN-PRG-xxx, getting back into the UK at 22:30 - 23:00.

It's a new LoCo special: doesn't go anywhere, just collects taxes for Gordon Brown and generates CO2 emissions to annoy the Treehuggers :)

robo283 21st December 2006 19:47

Four days without a post...is nothing happening at The North's Favourite Airline? Tumbleweed rolls swiftly across the LBA apron as a bell tolls mournfully in the distance...

Cork

Heard that Jet2 may serve a new UK destination from Cork in 2007. Newcastle Cork route doing very well since BMI Baby pulled out of Durham

Where would they fly to? None of their current bases look likely. They already tried Belfast, but that was cancelled before it even began. I very much doubt that there would be demand for Blackpool, especially with Ryanair reinstating Liverpool back up to daily. Aer Lingus are starting Manchester in direct competition with WW so no room for a third carrier there. Leeds almost definitely doesn't have enough traffic to sustain two carriers. Edinburgh might be a possibility. Aer Arann have been very successful on the route, and now have ten flights per week. They seem to achieve very good loads, and yield must good considering the fares they're charging. Jet 2 are rumoured to be launching a new base in the new year, so maybe Cork will gat a service from there??

ryan2000 22nd December 2006 08:18

Which route?

Blackpool is the one that would qualify for incentives, marketing support, etc. However Ryanair's decision to go daily to Liverpool might well complicate matters.

Would like to see Jet2 at ABZ now we are getting a longer runway at long last & expanded international facilities.

Doubt it'll happen though, despite the continued strong growth we are getting up here.

airhumberside 22nd December 2006 09:51

I take it the possible new base for next summer isn't now hapenning?

BLK could get a B752. Sun destinations on weekdays and Saturdays, while operating city destinations on Fridays and Sundays. Last summer proved the demand for sun destinations.

Could Teeside be the next base. Jet2 are always full of surprises! Now that BMIBaby have pulled the plug, the Northern airline could find a market, just like they did at once deserted Blackpool.

I think that gap has been filled with flyglobespan setting up shop there.

gms1991 23rd December 2006 20:32

Sorry. Completely forgot about them!

There is Liverpool?!!:O They would certainly get 'wasted' at LPL! Ryanair and easyJet would have a field day burrying Jet2 into the ground!

I think that either Norwich or a Highland airport will get chosen.

bartelby 24th December 2006 04:56

Cant see a 75 at BLK for this summer maybe next.
Probably a couple of units in Ncl looking at the programme.
Can only see 7-8 75s ready in time for summer! Lots of subs I guess.
So I will be surprised if any new bases soon.

Wellington Bomber 24th December 2006 08:38

Do not forget that Humberside is in the North and might Jet 2 open up there, also the airport is owned by Manchester and dont Jet 2 have a good relationship with them
