ScottsSLF
Your going to need a bigger drive if that's the business plan.
MOL will hedge is bets on the outcome of the referendum, if the deal was good enough he'd even paint an aircraft with vote YES Whilst your on can wind sock park there as well, whilst he waits for the spotters bus to GLA ...... |
FLB - There was no need for the dig at Wind Sock - it is juvenile and pathetic. The conversation in the main about PIK recently has been sensible and adult - do not lower it to the depths that it was a few weeks ago please.

Does anyone know what the current operating revenue for Prestwick is?
|
This is the worst possible announcement for PIK.
The winter is when it costs the mosts to heat the place, using the ancient oil fired system, and keep the runways clear of snow and ice. The airport already loses over a pound per pax (an effective subsidy?), it just beggars belief that 500k pax will go anywhere close to covering any costs. The Scottish Government had an opportunity back in November to change the management team for one that has drive and imagination but they chose to keep the old guard who changed nothing and this is the result. With the announcement today that GARL is likely to go ahead now PIK loses its USP of having a railway station on site. What future for PIK? Its pretty bleak out there... |
Wonder how the likes of jet 2 easy jet and air lingus will react too this? Could any of them be encouraged too do something at pik?
|
Wonder how the likes of jet 2 easy jet and air lingus will react too this? Could any of them be encouraged too do something at pik? Both companies have a loyal customer base at GLA, a large part of whcih would stay behind at GLA and fly with A.N.Other if they moved to PIK. PIK has only ever been able to compete on price as it falls behind on location and facilities. Today the Number One price sensitive carrier sent a message..... |
someone help me with the Maths for PIK
13 weekly returns = 26 flights = 26*186 seats = 4836 * 52 weeks = 251472 pax at 100% LF. If there is not mistake in the maths, this suggests two more planes during the summer months. |

Nothing wrong with your maths, Ms Sturgeons Maths is a rather different matter!!
If they close PIK then the FR maintenance facility and the jobs with it also move, in one clever leap the previous owner have managed to offload any future liability going forward on to the shoulder of the inept Scottish Government and UK tax payers in turn. It beggars belief and shows the utter arrogance of the administration that they think they are some how more capable then a business driven by profit, buying votes i understand, but buying an opened ended commitment to keep open an airport for which there is no commercial demand at a level that covers cost is bonkers, it can only end in tears for local employee's, i would not be surprised if Ryanair have managed to extract an even better deal from PIK to keep flights there over the winter period, who would blame them? it what i'd do, Ms Sturgeon can not play hard ball in the run up to the referendum MOL team play hard ball for breakfast. I'm sorry if my previous flippant post upset ScotsSLF but this is a forum for people who at least ought to know something about the airline industry and wishing for a return to the glory days will not make it so, PIK will join the list of Manston, Teesside and others that are no longer viable commercially, sad but its how it is. If i were running either GLA/EDI i would post September be challenging the state aid that PIK is receiving, to state that it is a loan that must be repaid with interest is insulting, that argument won't even cut the ice with a Paisley drug dealer. |
FLB - not upset but disappointed with the immaturity
|
Facelookbovvered you seem to know a lot about Scottish politics even though you are in Ireland. You seem to have an axe to grind with the current Scottish Government as you go on about it a lot. I am no fan of the SNP but please keep politics out of this forum. If you want to air your political grievances please do it elsewhere.
|
Im glad other people can see what Facelookbovvered is like, This place is his life , and his close pal Skipness one echo sending private messages about jogging on , That wont be happening anytime soon , Just to let yous all know what these muppets are like , :D

Private messages.... surely not ;):=

Im afraid so. Some sad sad people on here. Who enjoy the fact that prestwick is struggling. Which is totally pathetic. Maybe now they can move on to another airports forum and do the same..... Actually feel sorry for them
|
I`d just like to remind some of the posters on here, that peoples livelihoods are on the line.
As sad a day as I can remember for the airport, probably worse than losing the transatlantic flight status. However I will watch with interest as the turf war develops at Glasgow between Ryanair and Aer Lingus/EasyJet and Wizz. If I was a betting man I`d say Wizz will be out of there in under a year!! |
@12-30 Wind Sock, play the ball and not the man.
You keep slagging off people but in truth, what we said, has come to pass. It gives me no pleasure to see this happen as PIK was my local but that business model has been on it's knees since APD burst the loco bubble at our second tier airports. |
Well said Tiger8 keyboard warriors get on my nerves especially ones who dont live in this country and i struggle to find what its actually got to do with them ive lots of friends employed at Prestwick and youre right we are dealing with peoples livelihoods
|
PRESTWICK
Cannot believe the Scottish Government, following the review, are endorsing the current shower to "lead the airport into the future"! To the unemployment line more like!!

12-30 Windsock
Im afraid so. Some sad sad people on here. Who enjoy the fact that prestwick is struggling. Which is totally pathetic. Maybe now they can move on to another airports forum and do the same..... Actually feel sorry for them Nobody enjoys the fact that PIK is struggling; but fact it is - and commercial aviation is not a charity, whether it's keeping unviable airports open, or sustaining loss making routes. Many peoples jobs and their families livelihoods depend upon the airport and absolutely no one other than someone of a football fan mentality (fanatically supporting a competitor airport down the road) would wish them out of a job. This is a site for PROFESSIONALS (of which I am not one) not for spotters / enthusiasts and this has to be born in mind before lashing out at professional posters making postings from a professional standpoint. Stepping down from soap box! |
Facebook chappie has made some valid points to be fair. As a taxpayer here I'm not too chuffed that wee Nicola is pouring my money down the drain unnecessarily.
|
Could there be another way too run the airport as an airfield? Concentrate on freight, maintenence, sar, diversions, training millitary and storage utilising the empty bonds? Could this be the way ahead?
