New Edinburgh Airport MD hints at more long haul

Ok nothing concrete but is he serious or just following a long trodden EDI
MD road?

The Paphos will be a LGW rotation
The morning LGW is going to be EDI based for the winter atleast so that won't work.

Go Edi

It will work!

The early morning rotation 320 EDI-LGW-EDI will be an Edi based crew flying it but when it gets back to Edi, an Lgw based crew will take-over (who have night stopped) and do the EDI-Paphos-EDI, who will night-stop again.

After all its a trial.

Carnethy 12th August 2010 08:15

Yes I agree, a trial. I believe it's EZY dipping their toe in the water at EDI for mid-haul routes. If PFO proves successful I would bet on a based A320 and new routes such as DLM, SSH, etc, i.e. routes that FR do not serve. Of course I may well be wrong!!

Ok so what you're saying is it's going to be an LGW crew but an EDI aircraft. Presumably this means one of the A319s will be getting replaced by an A320 atleast on the days PFO is operating. Will the A320 be rotated back to an A319 for the days PFO doesn't operate?

The runway at the airport has now reopened after a Ryanair emergency landing.

The Ryanair flight from Pisa was on approch to the airprot when the wheels failed to come down. The aircraft contuined to circled overhead and the wheels came down. The aircraft landed 8 minutes after the polit declared an emergency.

Major response to Edinburgh airport over Ryanair alert Deadline Press & Picture Agency

Bagheera 14th August 2010 01:31

Usual press nonsense im afraid. The aircraft performed a missed approach when it received an unsafe gear indication, however the wheels were always down and locked, this was confirmed from the tower. Aircraft then performed an extended radar circuit whilst the appropriate checklist was completed. The emergency service call out and response was entirely normal for this type of incident and nothing particularly untoward occured. Dont suppose thats sells newspapers though does it!

CabinCrewe 14th August 2010 13:02

Must be some super people in the tower if they can confirm a set of gear are locked

Ringwayman 14th August 2010 15:20

Yes it's amazing what a pair of binoculars allows you to see.

frfly 14th August 2010 20:43

Im with GoEDI that doesnt make any sense....why use an LGW crew on an EDI based aircraft flying from EDI to Cyprus and back....to night stop them twice and have all those extra costs?

CabinCrewe 14th August 2010 22:57

Presuming the binoculars dont produce stray from Eurocontrol guidelines...;) Makes quite interesting reading even about other scenarios.

"If the low pass is made for the purpose of observing the undercarriage, one of the following replies could be used to describe its condition
a) landing gear appears down;
b) right (or left, or nose) wheel appears up (or down);
c) wheels appear up;
d) right (or left, or nose) wheel does not appear up (or down).

Apart from the above mentioned, a controller should:
NOT certify the down and locked position of the landing gear – the visual inspection during low pass should be done by qualified personnel. If not possible, the tower controller should provide information about landing gear not extended or only partly extended to the aircraft concerned without delay"

Jet2 to Budapest

Jet2 adding EDI-Budapest - 3 x weekly, starting 21 April 2011.

Also, peak summer frequency on EDI-Palma de Mallorca increasing to 5 x weekly in 2011.

Joe Curry 26th August 2010 21:07

New routes are popping-up almost weekly. News of a Middle East direct or
Florida route could be on announced sooner than anticipated?

CabinCrewe 26th August 2010 21:14

Hasnt Florida been tried from EDI and never replaced by the big tour operators...cant see that coming back in a hurry. IT Florida seats ex UK are generally down for next year. Middle East route would be a better haul, though cant see EK standing for that. Interesting times :)

Joe Curry 27th August 2010 08:30

Florida flights from EDI were always full, tour operators decided to double-up
at GLA obviously. Something not exactly unknown at EDI over the decades
on leisure routes. Plus of course we don't know BAA's part in Travel City's
decisions.
A pity that GSM went down before EDI had a chance to prove it's worth on a Florida route independent of tour operator's High Street travel chains.?

Blue1 To Helsinki

heyy guys first post here :D,

Blue1 have announced new flights from helsinki. Flights will operate twice weekly.

New Helsinki service with Blue1
02 September 2010
Edinburgh Airport today (Thursday) announced a new route to Finnish Capital Helsinki. This link is a first for Scotland and means that Edinburgh Airport is number one in the UK (outside London) in terms of links to Scandinavia.
It is the 25th destination to be added to Edinburgh Airport in 2010 and brings the number of routes from Scotland’s Capital to 125.

The route is being operated by Finnish airline Blue 1 and will see a twice weekly service starting in April 2011.
Helsinki is one of Europe’s leading capitals and a destination that the Route Development Team at Edinburgh Airport has worked long and hard to add to Edinburgh’s list.
Kevin Brown, Managing Director, Edinburgh Airport, said: “This is a significant development for Edinburgh Airport and Edinburgh itself as it is a predominantly inbound route and shows the continuing strength of Edinburgh as a destination.
“We’re committed to continuing to play our role in Scottish tourism by making it as easy a possible for tourists to access Edinburgh and beyond. As we face increased taxation and continuing confidence issues in aviation it is crucial that we maintain a diverse choice of routes for passengers.”
Juha Järvinen Vice President of Commercial at Blue1, said: "Blue1 is looking forward to the new route opening between Helsinki and Edinburgh. Scotland is exciting destination for Finnish travelers, with excellent possibility to combine countryside excursions with Edinburgh city break. Helsinki on the other hand is the beauty of the Baltic Sea region, with unique mix of East and West. Helsinki will be the world design capital in 2012, so the new route gives the Scots chance to check out the Finnish capital city and its secrets".

Flights will operate Mondays and Fridays from 29 April and 28 October 2011. The route will be flown by Blue1's NEW Boeing 717 aircraft.

Pretty sure there's still more flights from MAN to Scandinavia

Ringwayman 2nd September 2010 19:20

I thought Finnair operated a 2 or 3 weekly schedule a few years ago on the EDI-HEL route? Where's Joe when you need him!

CabinCrewe 2nd September 2010 20:03

Pretty sure there's still more flights from MAN to Scandinavia
In frequency terms probably, in capacity terms possibly, but not in destination terms

Though I thought Finland wasn't in Scandinavia?
