I would expect the Dart to be in operation first. Then the government can still overturn the decision.

LLAOL have already stated that the extra capacity is required from 2024, which is the same year the decision for the DCO is meant to happen. Two picks of the cherry, which is now a risky move. If the public inquiry turns down 19m how could a DCO approve 32m? As I have already said, the approval for 19m was taken in-house so was always risk free but now it threatens the ultimate goal due the unplanned public inquiry.

LRT, LLAOL and LBC must be confident, as they could have withdrawn the application when the inquiry was announced and waited for the DCO. It does give opposition groups two opportunities to kill the big one.

It will be interesting what happens at Bristol Airport which could set a precedent, putting aside anything LBC have done. It looks like central Government will not stand in the way of that local decision.

Good chance there will be a change of government before the DCO comes to the end of the legal process. Then it depends on who is more committed to reducing greenhouse gases, Tories or Labour.

Stopping expansion at Luton does not reduce greenhouse gases......pax and planes will go to other airports that have been granted expansion.

It would make a powerful statement though that they were serious about climate change. As I have already said Luton is not a strategic airport, Amsterdam is and look what is happening across the North Sea. As time passes the pressure increases on the UK government.

So Amsterdam applies a cap while Luton gets permission to nearly double. Good headline just like Luton Council declaring a climate emergency but excluding the aircraft flying out of its own airport, which is what has happened.

Luton has higher than average death tolls due to pollution with an average of 86 deaths a year. Aircraft are a contributing factor according to an old Council report.

Regarding the Eastern and Emerald slot applications I would guess Emerald were thinking of a Waterford service and Eastern a weekly Newquay service. I notice that easy are operating several flights on Christmas Day this year.

Another reason why there are recruitment issues at Luton. Come and work at Luton, you will be expected to work on Christmas Day and have this special day ruined.

I doubt it, as Waterford is shut for most of next year.

More likely to be for the Derry PSO which requires slots to be held at a London airport before you can apply for the funding

Exactly, many airports are in the same boat and have staff shortages. Those that are pleased about flights on Christmas Day will probably be tucking into their turkey dinners with family without a thought about some of us who are forced to work. Working on Christmas Day is a depressing experience so there are few volunteers.

I suppose ones heard of a motor car LTNman! Àlso if you work in a number of industries unusual hours are the norm ie media, hospitality etc. You would expect if you are in hospital over Christmas you would expect nurses to be looking after you and people in the kitchen cooking your meals. A
​​considerable number of people are not Christians in the UK so do not celebrate Christmas..
Wizzair are also operating flights on Christmas Day.

Just had a look at the WZZ TLV flight on 25th, almost £600 one way but El Al is over £700, cheaper from LHR!
