Most boeings are 7 days before you have to start on storage checks. Although I believe they have been issuing extensions to 14 days under the current circumstances.

A good overview from Boeing on this subject: https://www.boeing.com/commercial/ae...ly/s02txt.html

The circuits being flown by RYR over the last few days are clearly aimed at keeping the aircraft technically "active" to reduce the impact of storage checks. However, I doubt given the size of the fleet this can continue for long......

I believe it’s mainly to keep crews current

I believe it’s mainly to keep crews current

That could be done with one aircraft pounding the circuit if required (there's Simulators anyway at STN) All these flights have seen each different aircraft go up and just complete one tight circuit.....

Ryanair crew often reach 900 hours by the New Year and therefore are stood down. The flying is back filled by pilots elsewhere with available hours for 2-3 months. I'd wager it was those pilots that had reached 900 hours, doing a bit of flying prior to 90 days?

BA are planning to fly 5 747’s (G-CIVA/R/S/T/X) to TEV for storage later today. With a further 5 747’s (G-BNLY, G-BYGF, G-CIVC/U/W) are planned to be flown to BOH for storage tomorrow.

Seems a lot more than a trickle - from NCL, EDI and GLA and possibly other places!

19 EZYs at SEN now, with 17 other airliners present including the ASL and JOTA freighters and some RYR and Titan examples.

Any chance of a URL linking to some photos of all the air frames stored at SEN ? Not easy right now to get to SEN if you don't live locally...

It's still in service. BA is still flying 747s on schedules to DFW (one due back at LHR imminently) and MIA.

The LTN based RYR's are up doing a circuit again......spoke to one of their Engineers who confirmed its to avoid storage checks....

davidjohnson6 2nd Apr 2020 11:59

At what point does a 10 min flight every 5 days become more expensive than doing an A check ? Or is the constraint more about not having enough qualified engineers to carry out and sign off the check ?
Does going for a 10 min flight without pax make it easier for pilots to continue to be deemed current ?
