Still surprised how much transatlantic traffic there is and also inter EU traffic from countries that are meant to be in lockdown.
Also just noticed an Iberia flight heading from the Spanish hotspot Madrid to Heathrow. I wonder how many new cases of Coronavirus that is bringing into the UK |

A lot of the pictures show small groups of people together - these are almost certainly family members who you are with 24/7 - I've been out and about and TBH I 've been impressed by how people have been staying at least 1-2 m away from others
|
Also all photos of people in parks etc are shot with telephoto lenses so people appear much closer to each other than they are.
|
Where I visited the main car park had been closed and the large secondary car park was closed anyway for maintenance. This left the third much smaller car park which photos would have shown to be bursting at the seams. But after leaving the car park aside from the odd person we had vast spaces to ourself to wonder around.

India (the country, not just Air India) to shut down domestic passenger flights from Wednesday. International pax flights have already been closed

So stay at home should mean no air travel from tomorrow?

"Two's company, three is a crowd and not allowed" seems an apt saying |
The government has stated that gatherings of more than two people who do not live together are to be prohibited. Baggage reclaim, passport control, departure gates, security etc?

I find it hard to believe that wearing a face mask has zero effect. We know the virus is transmitted via respiratory droplets. If 2 people get within 1 m of each other in a supermarket or sit beside each other in a plane or bus what are the relative risks between not wearing a mask and wearing one. What is the relative risk of infecting surfaces in the supermarket or bus. I suspect there have been no scientific trials but it would be nice to have some information based on facts. I understand we have to be careful to avoid panic buying creating a shortage for hospital staff etc but if there is a benefit we should be boosting the production of such masks in a big way.
|
Can’t remember where or who but a consultant on the tv said that whilst there might be a benefit in limiting droplet travel, the majority of masks do little more than provide a nice warm damp environment that most viruses thrive on.
|
From the BBC
Fine droplets between 1-5 micrometres in size – about 30 times smaller than the width of a human hair – can remain airborne for several hours in still air. Also with a shortage of PPE equipment the priority must be for health workers. |
Masks don't work - there's enough professional opinion on the web and in the papers and media to say so
Just makes people feel better |

Ryanair expects to be pretty much grounded from today. |

Clearly if you are working closely to an infected patient, full PPE is essential. The consensus is that masks are important if you are infected because they will trap the larger droplets when you sneeze or cough. However they do little to protect you from any micro droplets in the air.
