Sense a bit if mischief making with it, as their social media page attracted a surprising number of comments. Still, keeps people interested.

Yep, think people was expecting more from TUI, however bay steps - hopefully they can secure something else

I think whilst the future of DSA is apparently up in the air there might not be the appetite to get too involved in TUI expansion. It may yet happen though.

Has 2Excel got a hangar at Humberside for their Beech 200s and PA 31s.

They use the pre/existing hangar 5 I believe, seem to recall it was used for a while by one of the helicopter operators (bond or Bristow?) previously,

Could be wrong but I think they use a room in the helicopter terminal as a crew room. Expect if DSA doesn’t reopen and they decide to stay at HUY there might be the appetite to build a facility more fitting.

I wonder how much that would cost?

Government handing a lot of money to Teesside airport…just announced money for two new hangers.

The 727s are there makes sense to move the rest?

Buster the Bear 17th Jan 2023 19:59

Too far north for the Coastguard King Air fleet?

Albert Hall 17th Jan 2023 20:09

Or perhaps that the fleet now based at HUY is on a shorter contractual response time (e.g. 2 hours versus 4 for the 727s) which means that a move from DSA to MME would mean mass relocation of crew and support teams in a way that moving the 727s doesn't, as you've still got sufficient time to meet the contract response time without an expensive move of house?

Depends really, there must be some tie ins with the work going on at the Bristow hangar re. coastguard SAR contract. That was a purpose built facility. It would seem that they want to retain their office functions at DSA so would make sense to have a fairly local operating base, unless they moved lock stock to Teesside including the functions currently at DSA. Also, as Buster says, HUY is ideally located for the coastguard contract.

Thanks for the replies. I thought there were still a number of stored S92s in the hangar mentioned.

Think they’re in hangar 9 (Babcock?)

10-15 minutes flight time?

Probably a bit more than that but the main point is the distance between DSA and HUY being not that much is perhaps why they decided to put their fleet there. Whether there are any deals with Teesside remains to be seen, but I expect HUY is favoured for this operation for the reasons already outlined, otherwise why didn’t they just relocate the lot to Teesside from the start?

Maybe the mayor ran out of money and needed the latest government hand out to build more hangar space?

Yes it appears to have been dropped, unsurprisingly. They originally intended to suspend it during the summer lull in business travel, but it now looks like it’s been quietly removed from the booking engine. Hardly surprising when it was seeing on average less than 10 passengers per flight. Can’t compete with the flexibility of KLM.

NQY increased to 4 x weekly, some shared with EMA so that seems to be doing ok. But if HUY want to increase passenger throughput then the only viable means of doing so is by catering to the latent demand that exists for flights to popular leisure destinations, particularly with the demise of DSA. KLM has the rest covered.

pug 9th Nov 2023 08:29

Tiny in the grand scheme of things, but looks like TUI have added a second weekly PMI for S25 this time on a Saturday which would allow for flexible stays outside of 7 or 14 nights. Judging purely by load factors on the service, I would expect a Saturday to sell even better. I understand a lot of this years flights were sellouts quite early on. Long way off yet, and things can and no doubt will change, but it’s good to see additions rather than more cut backs.
