Newcastle

There isn't much more routes to do unless they start building up the city breaks routes

Lisbon
Madrid
Seville
Munich etc

all the above could work

Currently No Operations at any of the above from Jet2
Newcastle, I believe are about to lose Berlin SXF from EZY. Jet 2 currently operate to SXF from LBA, so maybe a possibility of them taking this over where demand has steadily met capacity.

Agree re. Sunshine routes exited by TCX

HH6702 28th Nov 2018 22:32

We need Jet2 to be able to offer year round services as what happens to the aircraft in the winter months

Greece routes are summer only although still nice to have at ncl

maybe a year round Athens ?

Plane.Silly 29th Nov 2018 09:59

Would be nice, but they don't offer it from any other base. You would have thought they'd try it in LBA/MAN/BHX/STN first before rolling to the smaller bases

Kos & Keffalonia that TCX have dropped if they wish
These are much more likely, given they are already served from several bases already.

Athens isn`t the market it used to be except for the small islands around the coast of Athens as most of the larger islands now have their own airports
so people don`t need to connect with the ferries

Athens is becoming increasingly popular as a year round weekend destination.

Stansted have very few city break destinations, maybe we will so some growth there but that will mean going up against Ryanair, we all know Ryanair will just price drop.
Maybe Jet2 will look into new routes, there are lots to choose from.

According to Jethro's, the next Jet2 2nd hand B737-800, G-DRTO, is due into Lasham w/c 3rd Dec 18. Ex SunExpress TC-SNY.

Interesting to see EXS300T .G-GDFS (presumably a training flight number) currently doing circuits and bumps using BAE Warton's (WRT) runway.

FR24 says it came OUT of Blackpool having been diverted there enroute to WRT from LBA so BLK can clearly still take 737-800s, light anyway. However, the playback does not show this - just continuous low level curcuits.

This seems to be a regular thing - Jet2 aircraft was doing low tight circuits over the Ribble estuary close to BAE Warton on Thurs 29 Nov. Don't know whether/where it was landing in between.

Are you sure it was 29th and not 30th? The base training trip on the 29th was cancelled due to strong winds, I operated the first one at WTN on the 30th, there was a second one that came in as I departed. We came in from Birmingham, the second one from Stansted.

I'm assuming you mean WRT (Warton) not WTN (Waddington) and it begs the question why use WRT not BLK?
is it runway length perhaps or can Blackpool no longer take commercial jets due to ATC or other restrictions?

Has Blackppol still got an ILS?

Yes, CAT1 for RWY28.

mmeteesside 2nd Dec 2018 11:29

They used to use Durham when it was 737-300's... is there something that makes it unsuitable for the -800's ?
Or is it purely a commercial choice?
Just curiously as there's been Easyjet and Flybe quite a bit recently for circuit training

Don’t need an ILS for circuits.

Thanks for the correction, I did indeed mean Warton and not Waddington.

As to why we don’t use Blackpool, it’s not long enough.

Teeside is still usable for 300’s, but again, it’s not long enough for our requirements for 800’s.

sixchannel 3rd Dec 2018 12:15

Many thanks for the full reply.
Just wondered as I saw a YT vid of the final Jet2 departure from BLK but of course it was a 300. D'oh!
interesting non the less - 300s could get away with 1869 mtrs at BLK and 2200+ at Teeside but the 800s need the 2400+ at WRT.

Mooncrest 3rd Dec 2018 17:49

I suppose this explains why Jet2 never use their own back yard, Leeds Bradford, for training.

Maybe a fully operational airport isnt the place for circuit training with flights going in and out, getting in the way asthey do.
But LBA and MME are the same length so if MME is too short for 800 circuit training, its a bit s--t or bust when they have to do it for real. Lol.
