This crisis will pass, we just don't know how long it will take yet. Look back to 1900 there have always been crisis many worse than this. In the long term, will Lhr want a lot of available slots occupied by low cost carriers?

This is a bit of better news ..seen on London air travel.com
During October, flights to Male also transfer from Gatwick to Heathrow. BA will also begin to operate flights to Barbados and Orlando from both Gatwick and Heathrow. At London Gatwick, during the course of the month BA resumes flights to Cancun, Grenada, Mauritius, Orlando, Punta Cana, Providenciales, St Kitts, and Trinidad & Tobago. BA also launches a new route to Montego Bay. BA shorthaul due back here 27/3/21 Emirates bookable from here 1/12..using 777..one daily flight EK15/16 |
...so much for BAW pulling out of LGW then!
|
With US borders closed to brits, what is the point of running MCO flights in October?
|
Meanwhile Wizz have once again said they could base 20 aircraft at Gatwick now but Brussels has said no. Wonder it that could change January 1st?

Will just encourage more of the idiots dropping off on the perimeter roads and nearby hotels.

No doubt Stansted and Luton will follow with a £5 charge then. I can remember the anger when Luton charged £1. At the moment it is £4, which is the same as Stansted.
|
Does the airport company at Gatwick derive any meaningful income from passengers arriving by train or bus ?
|
When COVID first hit BA parked much of their fleet at BOH and also GLA/CWL where BA Engineering have major bases. I assume LGW must have given them a pretty good deal on parking given much of the based fleet is still on site? With no short haul winter program and Hangar 6 closing, will that be the case til next summer?

STN already charge £5 for up to 10 mins drop-off with free parking for 30 mins in short-stay blue zone. LTN maybe cheaper currently on drop-off but the free option involves a shuttle ride. LGW's free option will also involve a shuttle but up to a rather generous 2 hours.
|
Stansted is 30 minutes free in the blues zone of the short term car park.
Luton is 15 minutes free in the mid term and then a walk as there are no buses at the moment or 1 hour in the long term. Times were longer but it was costing the airport money so it was cut. I would expect Gatwick will gradually cut the free 2 hours period over time. |

I hear BA is reducing LGW to just line maintenance, all hangers to be sold off?
