To be fair, CC is right. Emirates is a special case and isn’t comparable. Just look south of the river to see very little sticks around long-term. I’m delighted STN has bagged Air India but if they’re still there in three years it’s because they can’t get LHR slots, even if by conventional measures STN is a roaring success.

Evening CC, Full of positivity this evening.
Lets just see how Air India get on before we start assuming they will pack up and move south.

As for Flypop, Air India might just have helped them out getting STN on the map and will give an alternative lower fare option on the route when / if they launch.

Lets try and be a bit more positive, I mean, who would have thought Emirates would be Twice daily from Stansted.

Totally agree with you Daz. It’s seems to happen a lot with anything positive at Stansted, you get people writing off flights before they even have a chance to begin.

It is very good news for STN but, as far as I'm aware, the main Sikh community in London is in Southall, on LHR's doorstep. People travelling on from Amritsar might help it succeed...

SAS

SAS are adding 4x weekly service from OSL-STN from 28 June. Appears to be seasonal.

Mixture of 737-700/800.

Large Sikh community just down the M11 from Stansted in Ilford , Seven Kings isn’t nicknamed Seven Sikhs for nothing .

Is Kosice just being moved from Southend to Stansted ?

Keanaga 1st Oct 2019 17:09

Looks like it,and the Cluj as well.

davidjohnson6 1st Oct 2019 22:45

Now that the STN S20 seems to have been completely loaded, it appears that Rodez and Weeze are the only 2 routes being cut

Stansted Northside

I’ve heard that Titan are looking at relocating or being relocated to make way for development of the land their hangar currently sits and it being developed into a modern business park with some of the old unused stands also being part of this.

STN406 3rd Oct 2019 23:07

Been talk for a long time about the whole of north side being converted into a business park and possibly a Amazon warehouse/distribution facility. But haven’t heard anything concrete about the plans.

OpsSix 4th Oct 2019 06:43

Drone surveys were carried out Northside not so long ago so we'll see.

zfw 4th Oct 2019 16:04

Probably something to do with this, the mothership has borrowed 1.832 billion and is knowhere near finishing MAN off.

Thanks for the info, i looked at the above and seems plans are very much a foot although does not show any drawings just words.

Doesn’t bode well for the GA community that are already fighting for custom

So with Jet2 adding Skiathos and Mytelini (Lesvos) from Stansted next summer, Stansted’s beginning to look better connected to the Greek islands/mainland resorts than Gatwick. Who would have thought this 10 years ago!?

The only Greek destinations missing now are Samos, Kavala and Santorini. Santorini really sticks out as one that BA Cityflyer should be looking at seeing as they launched Mykonos this year.

Interesting times thanks to Jet2.

TUI Summer 2020

PMI flight on Thursdays and AYT on Fridays has been changed to away-based third party operators for S20. Potential therefore for a couple of new routes/frequencies to be added.

New Airlines to STN

Really pleased to see STN/MAG continuing to expand the route network portfolio whilst restoring the airline mix near to that of 2006/07 levels, with Air India coming to the airport at the end of the month. Hopefully this is the start of great things to come. With that in mind, what other new airlines do people think STN has a chance to appeal to? In my view, I would love to see:
  • KLM Cityhopper: Although EZY currently serves the STN-AMS route, I do think there is a gap in the market for KLM to step into, especially given the vast long haul connections available through AMS. It could be a tough nut to crack, but I do honestly believe that this could be a big hit for many fliers from STN, especially given MAG's recent fundings that there is a rising demand for long haul in STN's catchment.
  • Lufthansa: Similar to the KL example, would be in direct completion with FR on the STN-FRA route, but would open up a huge array of long haul connections.
  • American Airlines: I'm aware that AA has tried and failed with STN several times, but I do know that the flights previously offered by Primera were incredibly popular. Moreover, STN is in a very different position to the one that it was in 11 years ago under BAA ownership when AA pulled out, and with LHR now maxed out, do you think AA (or any other legacy American carrier) would be willing to give STN another chance? Perhaps with the right equipment (e.g. A321 Neo), they might be able to crack it on a daily service (e.g. STN-JFK)
  • Hong Kong Airlines: I remember HX mentioning that London would be a prime candidate for their new A359. Again, given the rarity of slots at LHR, and with CX at both LHR and LGW, do you think HX might be tempted with STN? HKG has also be quoted as being one of the most sorted destinations within the STN catchment area. That being said, the recent protest situation in HKG might deter HX from entering the London market for a while until the situation improves.
  • Air Asia X: No stranger to STN. Might it be possible for MAG to lure D7 back to Stansted, perhaps this time with their A330 Neo?

Would be interested to hear your thoughts on this as STN continues to develop.

MJT is yet to be added. So it's yet to be confirmed? JSI seems very good addition from STN. STN really is coming into its own thanks to Jet2 who don't want to go to the traditional LGW airport. Definitely see those 3 been added in years to come - all depending on the bloody "b" word. I think Samos would be good served either with BA cityflyer or a charter with Titan A320.

whitelighter 17th Oct 2019 16:25

Primera’s routes much more likely to be picked up by Jet Blue, who have yet to confirm which London airport they will be flying to.

STN has to be in the running.
