easyJet have been rumoured to be leaving Stansted for a while now. I recall last winter their was rumours they would not be flying to Stansted international after Summer 20.
I remember speaking to a Jet2 manager about this and he said that if this did indeed happen Jet2 would look to take over some of the more profitable routes. He mentioned AMS, BIO and GVA.
Also I know Jet2 are very happy at Stansted and I very much doubt they would do anything form LGW.
Understand times have changed more than ever this year and their things are nothing like they where before. It’s a huge lost for Stansted currently but I’m sure we will get some airlines come in to fill the gap.

AirportPlanner1 2nd Jul 2020 09:25

I wondered if Jet2 might even be interested in domestic if EZY went altogether, given they have bases at each of BFS, EDI and GLA. On a similar note I see today is the first day of EZY ops, a couple of flights this evening to Scotland. Quite a few airlines in today.

davidjohnson6 5th Jul 2020 15:21

Air Albania planning to fly 1x weekly, (Sunday evening), Stansted-Tirana from 26 July. Daily cases per 100,000 population over last 10 days looks about 3 times higher than the UK though... not sure whether flights really will start later this month

G-AZUK 8th Jul 2020 09:47

no surprise

Barbados flight not going anywhere

pamann 8th Jul 2020 10:34

I’d be more surprised if it ever does happen.

Once a week business class only to Barbados on an airline that no one has heard of is just crazy when up against BA daily with a Avios too.

The article mentions Eos using the ‘Private terminal’ at Stansted. IIRC they used the main terminal and Sat 1 for their flights.

Harrych 13th Jul 2020 08:28

Emirates are only resuming service on their afternoon departure from STN from 1st September until S21, where the evening departure is planned to resume.

pamann 13th Jul 2020 08:30

EK

That’s really not bad considering.

AirportPlanner1 13th Jul 2020 08:48

Agreed, that would seem to be consistent with other airports including LGW which is also down to 1 per day initially - so even more of a drop. It gives some reassurance if it were needed the STN service stands on its own two feet.

I wonder if there are strong cargo flows into STN? It’s a big cargo airport which might contribute to the overall attractiveness of the airport.

Possibly but my own experiences of flying on it or seeing it board are that on the passenger side it’s packed to the rafters including most crucially up front.

Yes this is true, even when the flight had lighter loads. The percentage of people in first and business was always higher than economy. I’ve can’t recall working on a flight and not seeing at least 2 in first.

Also I had to speak to Emirates yesterday as this has changed my booking with the drop to one daily. The rep I spoke to said flights might start sooner than scheduled depending on demand.

Albawings appear to have dropped their Stansted-Tirana route
Air Albania opening the route, along with Easyjet starting Gatwick-Tirana might have something to do with it...

Several new appointments within the MAG estate results in a new MD for STN the former COO.

At least the appointment will bring a sound knowledge of the airport & continuity as such.

Stansted Express.

Has commenced this week introduction of the new Stadler 12 carriage electric trains between Liverpool Street & STN.

First two are now in service from an order for 12 and with a seating capacity of 767 provides an increase of 83% over older 8 carriage units.

FRatSTN 29th Jul 2020 13:11

New trains

Though no longer any first class accommodation I believe, which is a shame - but still a huge improvement all round.

Warehousing...and perhaps then with the provision for a previously rumoured consolidating Amazon/Prime long haul/short haul op.

Jet2 have had this service running since they resumed operations.

Rumours from EMA suggest that some cargo services st STN will suffer the same fate as Manchester with switch selling up to EMA.

UPS are likely to move their daily flights especially given the extra warehouse capacity which is due to open this month.

This wi Kso include the ASIANA flights which are in effect UPS.

Will be interesting to see if they can prise FED EX out ?

southside bobby 12th Aug 2020 06:37

Many thanks for the input certainly numerous factors in play (as always)

As much as this might be a strategic wish of MAG to concentrate cargo for the group at EMA it will be a commercial decision for UPS.

UPS has invested in a much larger facility at EMA, but so far the number of flights doesn't appear to have increased that much, so indeed, rather than any plan by MAG the move, if it takes place may be a commercial decision, however my gut feeling is that although some capacity may be moved north from Stansted there will still be a requirement for UPS to operate direct from the Southeast giving unreliability of the UK trunk road network. One all-lane closure of the M1 and express shipments coming out of London could all too easily miss their connections, and with the hightec sector concentrated in the southeast this could jeopardise business. And DHL maintain services from LHR despite the UK hub being in EMA.

southside bobby 12th Aug 2020 09:26

Indeed the original UPS DC8F rotation at STN was removed to EMA back in the day but service subsequently returned.

Thanks for the MAG numbers 5DME any figures yet showing for BHX & LTN...although Luton Airport is saying it has the biggest bounce back of all airports but with no figures...

Not too much comment required on the STN pax figures perhaps but reflects RYR getting back into the sky in a robust way...

The cargo numbers increase is a bit of a surprise with the scheduled incumbents obviously increasing loads rather than many extra charters...

BHX5DME 14th Aug 2020 17:47

I estimate BHX at 130-150k

southside bobby 14th Aug 2020 19:45

Again thanks 5DME...
Luton Airport management stating July numbers down 74% but no further figures perhaps you have last years numbers & slide rule then for the actual thruput as they claim the biggest bounce back of all airports...Ta

down 74% = 465,000 pax (1,808,237 in July 2019)

southside bobby 14th Aug 2020 20:14

Well thanks again 5DME just proves any number/statistic can be used to portray whatever reflects a requirement for the provider...

I believe Jet2 was just 4 flights today - FNC, CFU, DLM & AYT. I assume you were looking at a well known aircraft app which unfortunately is not always accurate and is still including the Jet2 Balearics, Canaries and Spanish mainland flights which don't start for at least a week..

That same APP is showing an Air India Dash 8 BHX - GLA tonight , remnants of the Flybe code-share so only 5 months out of date but still beaten by the BHX website which still shows a Jet Airways codeshare to Amsterdam on departures - only around 9 months out of date.

Pete

southside bobby 17th Aug 2020 16:54

Intended perhaps as a snapshot/record as it transpired & was due & coming down the track later in the day Ryanair reducing network flying by 20% & closure of EZY base.

As I suggested we are all at peak airports it may appear for this year unfortunately.

terrain safe 17th Aug 2020 18:06

Total movements for Stansted yesterday were 384, Luton 317, Gatwick 279 and Manchester 242. Heathrow was the busiest at 536. These are only movements that enter the NAS, not ones which are helicopters etc.
