Haven't they tried that this before?

Though being daily all of July I’d imagine they’d stay daily until the Winter schedule or at least end of the summer holidays. Very good news for Stansted and SAS to additional airport choices for London. Up against Ryanair with their 3 Daily flights. Will be interesting. SAS did add a daily service to Gothenburg a few years ago but stopped from 2 Daily competition from Ryanair then. Hopefully this will do better. The bonus they should hopefully attract some connections from CPH with this service. |
Fantastic figures for STN in January...
Busiest airport in the MAG group again. Busiest January on record. January pax total 1,932,680 for + 7.3%. Rolling 12 months pax now 28,132,479. In 2018 STN entered the list of the top 25 busiest airports in Europe...A staggering achievement. |
A staggering achievement |
Staggering when one remembers as a schoolboy staring thru a Nissan Hut window & looking at an empty peg board departures display in what was the original terminal most certainly.
Staggering when as schoolboys a visit produced just a single Cessna circling overhead & the self same terminal hosting a wedding reception!..It was a Saturday Lol. Yes staggering from that personal perspective which my comment was. No... not quite so staggering with total realisation of the dynamic of todays industry as referenced of course. |
Also worth noting, Our work to attract more airlines and provide passengers with even more choice of destinations continues to make great progress with the news that SAS will return to London Stansted in April to launch a new service to the Danish capital, Copenhagen. We are also involved in positive and on-going discussions with a number of airlines to secure more long-haul services, including flights to key markets across China, India and the USA. |
2 charters today from DTM in connection with Borussia Dortmund meeting Spurs on Wednesday at Wembley.
A320 of EWG in the associated black/yellow BVB team livery with the team as usual plus an A320 of Sundair. |
Ryanair today state the first 5 of it`s Boeing MAX "Gamechanger" a/c will be based at STN this Summer & across Winter`19.
For Winter`19 more flights on 24 existing routes over a total of 118 destinations. |
Further...First RYR MAX200 slated to arrive at its STN base in April.
|
The Transport Secretary confirmed this morning in the House of Commons continuation of the funding for the City of Derry to STN direct service until May`21.
|
RYR B737MAX200 at STN this Summer.
It appears the introduction at STN from May will not be centred at start on a few destinations but slotted in gradually amongst the normal schedules & frequencies on over more than 40 routes. TFS will be an exception with 3 visits pw to start but going to 8 pw from 1.7.19 which will be then become the first RYR route to be an exclusive MAX200 operation. Credit Routes... |
Half Term Ski Charters...
Today apart from all the regular Saturday services to the ski destinations extras are... DLH x3 To MUC ENT to SZG VLG to Grenoble AWC extras are 2x SZG & Lyon CFE extra to Chambery... |
Stansted - Dole is operated by Ryanair on Saturdays until 30-March, is suspended over the summer/autumn and then resumes again on Saturdays from 21-Dec-2019. This would seem to indicate it's operated as a ski flight
I took a flight on this route in January this year - apart from half term, yields look to be very low, the load factor on my flight was abysmal and, compared to Geneva or one of the more traditional ski-centric airports, it's very time consuming to get to the mountains. While I was at Dole airport, there was a flight departing to Kittila in northern Finland; Santa doesn't live in Kittila - the only reason to visit Kittila in winter is to go skiing in a place with reliable snow. Yes, there is a TGV service from Dole to Lausanne (runs every 4 hours and take 1h30) but this does not make for an easy link between the airport and ski slopes. The only place really worth visiting neaby in winter is Dijon - lovely place but much more appealing when it's warm rather than mid-winter. The Stansted-Dole route is rather reminiscent of the Stansted-Cuneo route that FR used to operate in the winter - eventually Ryanair discovered that people skiing in the Italian Alps prefer Turin airport So why are Ryanair resuming this route in December 2019 ? I would have thought that by now, someone in Dublin would have realised the mistake, accepted that they had to run the route until the end of March 2019, and then quietly killed off the route permanently. Is the Jura regional goverment paying *that* much in marketing support or is the contract really so strict that Ryanair can't buy their way out of it ? |
Further commentary...
"The aim is to bring English people to the Jura Mountains to go skiing" said the director of Dole airport of the of the new service. Further geographic commentary... Dole is around an hour & a half to Metabief & les Rousses. The region has emerged as a quieter great value alternative to larger Alpine resorts... |
Not unexpectedly Loganair has expressed its interest in operating the LDY PSO in place of BMR.

STN as part of the ongoing STP has revealed its newly designed Departure Lounge with seating for an additional 550 pax within three brand new areas.
Included is a newly created quiet seating area downstairs from the Departure Lounge away from the normal flows with 208 seats & on the way to the SAT 3 gates another new seating area provides a further 160 seats. Overall seating capacity increased by 40%. |

The changes have increased our capacity by 40 per cent.
The improvements come as part of the wider transformation project and will now make room for over 1000 passengers in the main departure lounge. A dedicated family seating area has also been created within the departure lounge for groups travelling with young children. |
Albawings
Albanian carrier Albawings (2B/AWT) will commence new Stansted to Tirana TIA service eff. 13th June 2019.
Initially 2x weekly frequency, increasing to 3x weekly eff. 2nd July 2019. |
Albawings service was originally mooted in Feb last year for a March`18 start at 4pw with B735.
Hopefully will be a more positive result this time & restore Tirana to the STN schedules. |

They are that "seats"...but stylish & actually help provide for 40% more customers...
STN has been challenged previously for not providing adequate numbers of seats inc WOWZZ himself in his post #1389 Nov`18 which he includes the following in a disparagement of the facilities -"endless shops but no seats". STN cannot win in some contradictory eyes but must be commended for providing those 550 further "seats". |
More seating to come soon within ‘Wetherpsoons’ extension and ‘Burger Kings’ new seating area, which is the space ‘Next’ had until recently. Also all the new seats in the main departure lounge have usb charging points built in. |
I was merely commenting that the seats seem to have been designed to ensure passengers are unable to stretch out in them. I'm glad that finally STN is providing the extra seating that is long overdue, given the meteoric rise in pax over the last couple of years. Once the new multistorey carpark is finished, with hopefully a decent valet parking option, and security and border control queues are reduced, it will once again become my preferred airport, as it was 10 years ago.

My last two journeys through Stansted have been seemless with regards to outbound security screening and inbound immigration. I have experienced the horrendous queues in the past, the last time was about three years ago though to be honest. It’s been either reasonable or very good since. I have stood in queues for much longer at both Gatwick and Heathrow in the last six months. |
Perhaps as expected Loganair have been awarded the contract to fly LDY/STN in place of defunct BMR...

The seating, which looks like it received inspiration from a park bench, has no doubt been installed to encourage sore arse syndrome. After 5 minutes or so passengers will want to stand up so always creating vacant seating. |
BA CityFlyer
BACF starting new Stansted to Mykonos route eff. 19th May, operating weekly until 29th September 2019. Replaces route to Nice which will no longer operate.

Brilliant news from BA, this route should do very well from STN, A totally new unserved route to a very popular island. |
BA Mykonos (JMK)
Just a shame it’s outbound Sunday and inbound Saturday. 6 or 13 nights. No good for the smaller Greek tour operators to use as a lot of their accommodations are tied into 7/10/11 or 14 night durations. Great for the independent traveler, especially so if you’re happy to fly into one London airport and back into another. |
Timings look nice. BA will launch a new Sunday service to Mykonos from 19 May to 29 September 2019. BA2335 departs Stansted at 10:05 and arrives at Mykonos at 15:25. BA2334 departs Mykonos at 16:35 and arrives at Stansted at 18:35. |
Multistorey Carpark
Can anyone update me on the progress of the carpark please. I thought completion date was around May, but the STN website is showing it as an available parking option.

I have heard it is already selling well and the airport is now considering using multi-storey car parks at long and mid stay parking areas too. |
Thanks for the update. The fact that reservations are being taken would imply that work is on track, but, unfortunately I tend to be a little cynical with regard to completion dates!
