Certainly don't expect for Ryanair to suddenly add the volumes of EasyJet's previous network because of this.

There could well be some expansion, but the slot acquisition will mostly be about giving Ryanair the ability to further optimise its overall slot position, ie taking advantage of the first wave slots for based aircraft and more desirable daytime slots. They may well not use all of them or indeed could drop previous historics in favour of better timed ex EasyJet slots.

Generally but not STN specific that does not appear to equate with MOL`s expansionist statements in the last few days.

He does though admit that the main brake next year on the network will be standing up enough pilots/cc.

The deployment of the `8200 may be interesting as MAG had stated in pre-virus days that the non availability had had an impact on RYR plans & the STN numbers.

MOL has hinted at adding capacity into the Med at least for next Summer generally.

Would be interesting to know how STN management view this. On one side, any business is good in the current climate and MOL has indicated he will stimulate demand through fares once confidence returns.
However it doesn't help with the long term desire to move away from a reliance on FR for traffic. That percentage had been moving in the right direction but this will likely move the goalposts the wrong way again.

Slot distribution for "other" operators remains unchanged though.

JetBlue still appear positive in commencing Transatlantic service to London in `21 & quoted as saying are very comfortable in having a path into more than one London airport...then continue...some of the London airports have been underserved to the US...Hint or snowing?

LTNman 12th Nov 2020 05:42

So why does the official Stansted website list flights either leaving from terminal 1 or just doesn’t mention the terminal when it only has one terminal?

southside bobby 12th Nov 2020 05:47

There is of course a Terminal North Side as well.

Has anyone told Stansted then, as they only list one.

southside bobby 12th Nov 2020 06:33

In the very recent past Titan have operated weekly passenger flights from North side for a high-end package holiday company

JetBlue went for slots at both Stansted and Gatwick for next summer and got both. Whether they fly both is a different question but Stansted is certainly on their radar.

Stansted will be bending over backwards to get this. But in the current environment so will Gatwick.

Fingers crossed, East Anglia needs a US connection.

Harrych 12th Nov 2020 10:57

JetBlue keep suggesting that they could operate in to more than one London airport so STN and LGW make sense being on opposite sides of London, with their rail connections serving different sides of London. And regardless of what affect the virus has on business travel, the likes of Canary Wharf are always going to spur demand for business travel from STN. Let’s just hope JetBlue recognise this.

southside bobby 12th Nov 2020 12:10

Certainly Cambridge requires local Transatlantic links from STN too being one of THE tech cities in Europe.

It will all in totality be a case well put forward by MAG for sure.

commit aviation 12th Nov 2020 13:20

I think post Covid LHR are likely to be one of the two plus either STN or LGW

Albert Hall 12th Nov 2020 13:27

Interesting to see that easyJet have transferred 312 slots per week at STN to Ryanair.

I wonder what that means? Big Ryanair growth or consolidating their operation from LTN to STN, just as easyJet has done the other way?

Did you miss the news story some months back that EZY have closed their Stansted base?

Just the key domestic routes plus Amsterdam now served with non based a/c. No need for the slots for the previous 6/7 based a/c going forward.

Canary Wharf is getting it's own Crossrail station direct to Heathrow. Business travel from Stansted is a fraction by % of LHR and LGW due to the dominance of Ryanair (not a criticism, I fly (flew!) with them often.)

JetBlue would be a good addition to both airports, good time to be a disruptor in market? Or possibly the worst if the big boys are in a fight for their own existence?
