BHX-Luxemburg
Flybe will commence daily flights to Luxembourg from September 5th 2016 :ok:
Daza |
And from 1st Sept Manchester to Luxemborg 12 weekly
Ian |
A good destination, but 12 a week? I think the route development team just put two pins in a map!
|
Ametyst
Business routes need to be 2 daily otherwise they just don`t work as long as it is possible to do there and back in the day. Ian |
Double-daily MANLUX is very aggressive considering Luxair's efforts to make a daily RJ145 work. If the route had feed from the Flybe hub so that it was effectively a UK-Luxembourg service with connections from EDI, GLA, BHD, IOM, ABZ, INV, SOU, EXT etc then it might help, but the schedules seem to pitch it firmly at the MAN-originating market. The airline simply does not seem to be using its MAN hub to support new routes like RTM and LUX when they stand a far better chance with this domestic feed in place!
|
LUX
Feed
The BHX timings will help if they want feed from EDI, GLA, ABZ and BHD for UK based pax. Pete |
You can`t always have it both ways, if you allowed for connecting flights it would not get way until 09.00 and return would have to be back by tea time so no business time in Luxembourg but it does work
the otherway on some routes or you come Manchester the day before as you would have to at Heathrow Ian |
Any more news on the Blue Islands franchise agreement? I can't see any mention of it on the websites of BE or SI, and ticketing remains very separate. Will it actually go ahead do people think?
|
Not seen anything on that, but it appears that BEE will be using VLM to operate some flights out of MAN, starting in a few weeks:
VLM Airlines-Operated Flights (14th March - 31st August 2016) Looks like this is a more wide-ranging arrangement than just IOM flights as was suggested in an earlier post. |
Who came up with the FAQ's
Q: Are firearms allowed to be carried in my hold bag? A: No, firearms cannot be carried on VLM-operated flights. Anybody would think Flybe allow firearms on their aircraft freely.... |
VLM for flybe
Is it only at Manchester airport that vlm will be flying for flybe this summer or will flybe be using them out of other airports.
Flybe has recently partnered with VLM Airlines to offer additional flights from 14th March and 31st August 2016. VLM will be flying for Flybe passengers on the following routes: •Manchester (MAN) to: ◦Aberdeen (ABZ) ◦Amsterdam (AMS) ◦Belfast City (BHD) ◦Dusseldorf (DUS) ◦Exeter (EXT) ◦Isle of Man (IOM) ◦Jersey (JER) ◦Knock - Ireland West (NOC) ◦Nantes (NTE) ◦Newquay (NQY) ◦Rotterdam (RTM) ◦Southampton (SOU) Flybe will continue to operate flights on these routes during this period, bolstered by the VLM-operated flights. |

Comments removed as failed to seek permission from rivet joint before posting. Many apologies. It won't happen again.

Anyone know when flybe are likely to inform pax of whether their flights are to be switched to vlm or not?
im booked on the man-rtm 26th march.. |
Big rumour here that Flybe will pull off BHD to NCL and to LPL. Loads are very poor according to CAA stats
|
NCL BHD has been disappointing, down to four weekly over the winter, about 1450/1500 pax per month
|
It could be more to do with the news that Ryanair are due to announce new routes shortly from Belfast International to both Liverpool and Newcastle.
Liverpool Airport's MD Andrew Cornish announced on BBC Radio Merseyside today that Ryanair are to commence services between Liverpool and Belfast. |
|
This route had some connection to a NHS deal, similar to IOM-LPL, i wonder what will happen now? On another note BHD-LPL is slowly picking up with passenger numbers
|
Rather than cancel LPL-BHD would it not make more sense to bring it back to 3 daily flights?

Isle of Man remains at the current higher schedule of 4 per day, whilst Edinburgh remains in the schedule at daily. |

Flybe is weighing up plans to challenge British Airways’ monopoly on domestic flights from Heathrow. According to this article in today's Sunday Times.
Flybe lands at Heathrow to take on BA | The Sunday Times |
Can't see it myself as things currently stand at LHR.

No alliance, could get random terminal, not great aircraft size availability, poor reliability in the industry, possibly cherry pick Edinburgh only... mmm interesting. Though theyve bumped up LCY domestic a fair bit when some said that wouldnt last.
|
Code:
could get random terminal, not great aircraft size availability, poor reliability in the industry, They still have some Emb195 frames perfectly acceptable for Edinburgh and Aberdeen , remember Manchester wasn't part of the remedial deal. Virgin rarely got stratospheric loads with the Aer Lingus 320 did they ! They could also do Nice at a pinch under remedial slot rules - Its undeserved from Heathrow and could well carry the AF codeshare (Flybe code across all their French flights today) as bmi did for many years Reliability is rather better than some think. |
Cornishsimon, Can you explain in what way ?
These are guaranteed slots free of exorbitant charges and for specific routes. The Emb195 has 118/119 seats in Flybe config and weight wise cheaper than a 319 even at Heathrow rates so will probably work well to/from Edinburgh/Aberdeen. Lets just update/remind ourselves the routes that can operated with these slots. Aberdeen/Edinburgh/Nice/Moscow/Cairo and Riyadh for a number of consecutive seasons - Not completed by Virgin ! Then any additional EU city. |
At 5 grand a day lease cost the 195 is way more expensive than a 319. I don't think the slightly lower landing fee (if it actually is) would make much difference.
|
At best talk of Flybe challenging BA is PR stunt. What sort of strategy would they follow on these routes? What is their point of difference?
LHR is expensive so competing on point to point, they are on the back for already competing on a London basis. Bmi failed and progressively moved away from domestics in favour of medium haul. 50% of LHR pax to Scotland are connecting, and many more making their own connections. Aberdeen is in decline. So leaves Edinburgh. These are by far the longest domestic sectors, so I cannot see anything fruitful for Flybe here given the competitive set... |
Interestingly the 195 costs £5,685 less in Noise charges than the 319 the departure levies are similar and obviously passenger charges are similar per pax.
NOx is £8.82 per kg that will also be lower on the 195 so overall - Yes the 195 is cheaper. We don't know what rates Flybe actually pay for leases do we or do you know different ? Cost base of Flybe is certainly lower than BA and i suspect even their Mix fleet crews. |

The lease cost for the 195 was circa £180,000/month so actually closer to 6k a day. I've heard that a 319 is something like £120,000/month which may well be a generic figure and obviously dependant on individual airline deals.
That's a fairly big difference to make up with a smaller, albeit, slightly more efficient aircraft. |
..."it will use small turbo prop aircraft"
Not a mention of E Jets! Always worth reading the actual article. |
