Yes LAX I agree the 787 seems to be the aircraft that opens routes before being upgraded.

The B787 was due to run from Sunday just gone to tomorrow. However every day it has changed to an A330, or, in today's case, a B77W. Thursday also sees 2 B77W. Today's evening service is supposed to be operated by B787 A7-BCL. The lunchtime service is being operated by 2 class B777 A7-BAX |
It's BCH tonight.

Personally, I'd be disappointed if MAN was downgraded to the B787, especially given the larger B77W needs to be fostered on more flights at the moment. Truth is Qatar throw any old equipment in, their "fleet planning" is interesting to say the least. A330-300 on Monday, A330-200 on Tuesday, A340-600 on Wednesday with a B787 on Thursday is not actually unknown at some stations. |
The A330's hold more cargo, have a higher passenger capacity, have been refitted to the latest Qatar interior and, based on current reviews, the A330 seems to be more comfortable than the B787 as the Boeing is described as cramped and narrow compared to the A330. Capacity-wise, I don't know about cargo so I accept what you say. Passenger capacity doesn't seem much different. The A332 (vs2) is shown as 260 (24/236) and the 787 as 254 (22/232) so there are a few more seats. My comment was simply related to the 787 being much newer equipment, but I agree it doesn't automatically mean it's a better pax experience. |
I'm on QR flight to SIN next week and I am happy that my DOH-SIN sector is now operated by an A350. The 787 reviews are awful.
|
The 788 is awful, I flew it last month overnight from MAD-DOH
|
B788 a tight squeeze at 3 x 3 x 3.
However airlines and accountants love them. The fuel burn is so much less than the B767 or B777 A330 Wait an see what the payload is like when the 788-1000 comes on line. |
The only advantage a 787 has over the A330 or 77W is speed. Its marginal but I think about 40mph faster.
We flew a TOM one to Orlando Sandford last summer and we slowly drifted past a Delta A330 AA 763 and a TCX A330. Probably saved us 20 mins on a 9hr flt over other twins. The windows are larger too, so slightly better view if in a window seat. Other than that agree with LAX. Not that Im complaining on BHX getting 8 Qatar 787s a week from next year:E Nigel |
Manfod,
There was a recent article from one of the Norwegian bosses hinting that they are looking at the 737MAX for long haul from both MAN and BHX . Think the first lot arrive early 2017 now ?? NIGEL |
Funny how once again skipness shows he is incapable of mature or sensible discussion, focusing on the poster rather than the content yet again.
Back on ignore you go. I suppose more fool me for thinking that twerp could ever grow up. |

Re Qatar the B787 is much better in J and much worse in Y than the A330. It would be nice to swap one of the flights so I could pick depending on if I am turning left or right :P

Not sure there is any new news here ?
Ryanair to launch six new services from Manchester Airport and add flights on 10 existing routes - Manchester Evening News |
Yes.
Limoges and Carcassone are new routes not known about. Nice to have some French regional routes back. So, the 5 new routes are Bratislava, Brindisi, Limoges, Malta and Carcassonne, and even though Bremen is listed as new, isn't. |
RYR: 500K additional seats (for comparison purposes, Monarch's damaging cutbacks in Summer 2015 amounted to 497K seats, so this is a great increase).
Eighth based aircraft confirmed. 250 departures per week. 41 destinations. One of MAN's weakest areas - Regional France - gains a very healthy additional 7 departures per week (Carcassonne 3, Limoges 4). Might not have to class this as a weak spot any more! Just need to tackle Eastern Europe and the Baltic now. EDIT: Website currently shows Carcassonne 2x Weekly; Limoges not yet loaded. Existing French routes Beauvais 3x Weekly; Beziers 2x Weekly with third weekly flight operating in August only. Time to check the calendar for quick jaunts to France! |
In terms of Regional France, Bordeaux and Lyon are the now 2 obvious gaps, with Lyon previously managing up to 2 daily flights but now relagated to a meagre ski route status and nothing in the summer.
I also think Nice could manage more than 5 weekly flights. Agreed though, this news has given a much needed boost to the this route area. Charlie Cornish has recently changed tact, from saying that he considers Europe well served, to now putting in focus on building up the Eastern Europe portfolio and adding capacity on existing routes. I know it's old ground, but, I think there could still be a market for Seville, Santiago, Podgorcia/Tivat, Bucharest and, one route that seems to get a lot of requests from the North West is Asturias. |
Excellent news re Ryanair. 500,000 extra seats to 3.8m indicates a 15% increase, reflecting the additional based a/c from 7 to 8. That probably means that a similar proportion as now of the additional flights will be by non-based units.
Great to see two new destinations in France. |
3.8m of MAN's pax / seats will be RYR...better not fall out with MOL then !
Mind you, that's a better position than STN with RYR, but with such volume of work between MAG and RYR I doubt either can afford a fall out. Great news, and real bread and butter growth that MAN needs. |
I see the ryanair announcement mentions 25% growth but is rather ambiguous as to what period that relates to. Not sure what s2015 was in terms of weekly departures at its peak, but 250 per week for next summer does sound more than the 15% indicated by the increase in seats.
LAX, you mention destinations still not served from MAN; I wonder if easyjet will come up with anything to plug any of those gaps. |
