Yes SQ are still selling daily via Munich as far ahead as December 2015, however it's still very early days for next Winter.

I read some time ago that cargo was a big revenue contributor to the SQ MAN flights. This seems to be a theme on many longhaul flights from MAN and may be the reason SQ seem content to maintain the status quo via Munich for now.

On the other hand their A350s start arriving in 2015 and its capabilities will allow them to rejig their schedules to lots of destinations if they want to, so maybe MAN might see some changes then.

Went through Manchester a few times the past couple of years, and....

Difficult to have a World Class airport when you have to cater for First Class pax flying to Asia, and Eastern European fruit pickers nipping back home for the weekend, all rubbing shoulders from check-in to boarding....

Just doesn't happen like that in most major European airports like AMS, CDG, FRA, etc....

And this comparison with the mega airports in the Middle East and Far East is pointless - all a question of money, I'm afraid, as these are nearly all state funded and designed to visually impress.....

Maybe too simple to be possible, and can't understand why it hasn't already been done if it is possible, but if Manchester wants to or needs to attract everyone from Northern England and every airline from every continent, why not let those who pay the extra for their tickets benefit from any capital spend, and those that want to travel as cheaply as possible have the poorer facilities ??

Ryanair and other LoCos in one terminal, Easyjet and holiday charters in another terminal, and regionals and legacies with their business pax in the other terminal ?? Then invest in upgrading and maintaining the facilities for the business traffic in this third terminal for the benefit of the business pax who usually pay the higher fares and expect a bit more....

Seems to work at Marseille, where mp2 is basically just a very sparsely converted and equipped hangar for the LoCos with the main terminal reserved for non-LoCos....And, of course, with T3 at CDG which, frankly, is much, much worse than all the terminals at Manchester !!

Millionmileshigh 21st Dec 2014 14:25

I've had the same thought, it would also cut costs by closing the transfer facilities at 2 out of 3 terminals, and allow for shops inside to be tailored to the pax demographic. I.e do a family of four on their way to benidorm want a gourmet meal or a Burger King? What about the businessman off to Dubai? But of course it seems too common sense to work.

Ian Brooks 21st Dec 2014 14:43

Don`t think it`s quite as simple as that but hey ho
Trying to keep all terminals busy at all times not having 1 terminal bursting at the seams and another empty is the name of the game.
EK at present can only operate from T1 due A380 stand and not enough
B773 stands to go round on T2 in morning when you can have EK/EY/SVA/
SQ/PK on some days plus 2 VS B747 and numerous A330

Terminals

Of course the premium pax for the ME3 don't in fact mix much with the holiday punters. After their security fast track they are likely to be enjoying some nice food in the exclusive lounges. Same for premium KLM/LH etc fast tracked & in lounges- albeit not exclusive ones.
However, the T2 lounges are dire & tiny & well below par (unless recently upgraded)
T1 pier B & C are in desperate need of demolition & T2 toilet facilities are naff.
Various walkways, escalators & lifts appear to be always u/s - same story for over 10 years.
Having said that- I have been in alot worse terminals worldwide.
As a premium pax myself, I've sat waiting at Chek Lap Kok along with Filipino migrant workers going home - I don't get the point on trying to profile the pax. Just get decent infrastructure for all, & make sure what you do have- WORKS !!

dave59 21st Dec 2014 21:33

The worrying thing is that MAN are unable to make what they have work, so any new or upgraded facility will naturally be subject to the same culture. T2 is still relatively new so no excuses there but a constant "make do" approach and lack of attention to detail (inoperative equipment) ensure a variable and often mediocre passenger experience.

Old terminals are outmoded but there is insufficient space on their footprint to create anything truly impressive or indeed "world class".

I think many people will be amazed in the new year so just lets wait and see

Sounds good Ian.

Someone posted the flights will not be TSC. Westjet ? St Johns ?? or just poppycock ??

pwalhx 22nd Dec 2014 18:50

I saw that on Facebook too, I would suggest Westjet being more likely than TS be interesting to see.

adfly 22nd Dec 2014 20:34

It may be the same as the LGW-St Johns-Halifax route starting next year.

Are you in the know of forthcoming infrastructure projects for MAN then? Hope very much so that MAG are to invest in the tired terminals and that foul tower block that housed the control tower is pulled down

LAX_LHR 23rd Dec 2014 13:01

Virgin Atlantic seem to be loving MAN at the moment.

MAN-MCO goes to 13 weekly in July and August.

MAN-LAS goes 3 weekly July-October, with 3 weekly flights, new flight Tuesday. That's not all, the extra flight uses an A340-600!

Hi any idea if this would be permenent? Or tempory?
Great news however! :-) :D

LAX_LHR 23rd Dec 2014 13:17

At the moment the extra flights are only temporary on the months in my post.
Nice treat all the same though, and the big pressie (Beijing) is still to come if Charlie Cornish is true to his word.

Does the Barbados operate in July/Aug as well? If so, wouldn't that mean 3 x B747s would be required on some days plus the A330 for ATL?

LAX_LHR 23rd Dec 2014 13:30

Hi Manfod,

BGI runs on Mondays
MCO now runs double daily Tue-Sun, Mon only one flight
LAS runs Tue/Thu/Sun
ATL runs daily

So yes, 4 daily flights Tue/Thu/Sun, with Tue needing the A346/A333/2 B744 and Thu/Sun needing 3 B744 and A333.

Obviously there is the loss of little red, but, going by published L/F, we are not going to miss much there.

Told you not to worry about S15 earlier in the thread

Ha, ha, You know me - my glass tends to be half empty but I still am delighted by good news such as this.

T2 might be a wee bit busy on certain days in July/August then - Tuesday & Thursday for example being CX and SV days I believe.

LAX_LHR 23rd Dec 2014 13:42

Well, out of the VS A346, the SQ and CX B77W as well as SV using the B77W ad-hoc, there are only 2-3 B77W/A346 stands, so, someone's going to have to go remote, there is no question of it.
