Well lets wait and see IF they operate US East Coast first!

LGWAlan 5th Dec 2016 12:27

And where to!

Someone posted this routes online article on another forum and it mentions the MAX base but also says that EDI could be in line for some 787 ops from Norwegian too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the 787's US based? So the 787 and crew would technically be based in, say, Oakland, and operate to EDI, where they overnight?

Therefore there is no reason why we couldn't end up with both a MAX base and a couple of 787 flights. But given how far ahead they have announced Manchester, I guess a summer start for East Coast with the MAX will come first, with possible 787 flights coming either Winter 2017 or Summer 2018.

That's how I view it too as I can't see B787s based at EDI anytime soon. But as they open more B787 bases in the US opportunities are definitely there.

Has FLL-MAN been announced??? Can't see any press on it, just that they intended to open a crew base at FLL so far.

It's looking like any US flights will in fact be to Providence - around 60 miles southwest of Boston and Stewart "International", the same distance north of NYC.

Will the Scottish (and American) public take up on the old skool Ryanair style fayre of a flight to an airport nowhere near the marketed city?

Skipness One Echo 7th Dec 2016 21:42

The more I look at how Norwegian run their business, the better Ryanair looks. That's meant to be impossible IMHO.
Great to have new flights to new places for much cheapness but it's all built off the back of cutting corners and finding ways round the rules.

787's will fly to JFK/BOS, 737's will fly to the little outskirts airports.

Will there be any Norweigan 787's at Edinburgh anytime soon though?

That's the question.

Certainly won't be any long haul without the 787, can't see any 738's going from EDI-USA.

Surprising. I could well be wrong.

Stretching the limits of the 737 with EDI and MAN?

inOban 7th Dec 2016 22:22

I thought that the point of nexgen 737s/320neos was that they could reach the NE states from EDI or MAN.

A321 NEO LR/ER was the only one I seen advertised as really having the extra range.

Remember as well that these are theoretical ranges, the Atlantic can have nice headwinds for things heading westbound at this time of year.

The flights from EDI will be operated by a 738 MAX based at EDI. The others will be operated by U.S. based aircraft.

Stewart will serve New York, not Providence.

Doesn't change the distance! Hope it's dirt cheap for New York bound travellers.
