what a star

VickersVicount 10th Apr 2014 20:02

just saw a trailer for the new program. Doesn't look to be promoting a particularly high brow opinion. Think Reed Aviation, Think Easyjet, Think ITV-Airline series....
Looking forward more to the upcoming inside BA series

Edinburgh Airport BBC programme

To be honest I thought this was an interesting programme, if a little self promotional by Messrs Dewar and his rather smug beardy sidekick. Three points to note :

1. Pinstripe suits are not exactly current
2. Blonde hair and black eyebrows are chavtastic
3. They seem determined to secure more of the Scottish market, when most of us hope that there is room for everybody to make a buck and fly local, whether that's ABZ, PIK, INV or GLA.

Oh and 4, JC we already know what you think, so keep it closed please.

For those in the UK but outside Scotland, its on iPlayer.

Oh and 4, JC
How Chavtastic!

CabinCrewe 18th Apr 2014 11:20

Just watched online. I dont think it came across all that well. Im surprised they let it go out. Non stop chaos, queues and faults. And I agree, a lot of smug self promotion. Did someone tell the main man yet the normal purpose of GIP investments ?
Not sure ill tune in for the second installment.

Non stop chaos, queues and faults
Just like any other normal airport in the World?

You don't travel much do you?
The funniest bit is the two suits at American Airlines with the power to recommend EDI as a destination who got the **** taken out of them for the way they said "Edinburgh".

Also the aspiration to make this the best airport in the world, I think the guy actually meant it. Those types scare me...
Best bit is the sales pitch about the great new self check ins....which slow and confuse everyone and a re too complex for the airport CEO himself. Triumph.

I think if the worst we can come up with is personal insults regarding the dress sense of the featured staff then the airport came off in a pretty good light indeed. And frankly it's not the job of the EDI business development team to bang on about other airports in Scotland, they're focused on doing what they do to benefit their airport, as you would surely expect them to be?

It was an interesting programme, highlighting the years of under-investment at EDI that led to incidents such as that chaotic check-in. But great news that the new bosses are determined to put their money where their mouth is and accelerate the terminal expansion plans to avoid a repeat. I think it was bold move by the EDI team to put themselves in the spotlight like that, and on balance I think it has paid off. Nice bit of publicity for a great airport with a great future.

OntimeexceptACARS 18th Apr 2014 13:17

Callum, not disagreeing with you, points 1 and 2 were light hearted I hope.

Problems do occur every single day, and there are other days where things go swimmingly behind the scenes at any airport. And before you ask, I have worked airside at this airport.

Whilst I do think there has been under investment at EDI, that applies to most UK airports if you look carefully when abroad.

After the new security / arrival area is sortred out, the next task HAS to be airbridges and other infrastructure that are fit for purpose. Electrics on stands (as opposed to GPUs), bridges, lounges and other boarding gate infrastructure that are big enough to be reasonably futureproof.

And I'm sure Porrohman would add PCNs too :)

Back to the programme, yes it was a fair representation for what it was, but we know the folks at the sharp end take the brunt of the grief, maybe justifying my comments about a couple of specific senior staff members.

Will I watch again? Yes!

Is it me or is the forum too quiet especially when Qatar and US Airways are about to start services. Any whispers about a link to China coming to fruition?
C'mon fellow PPRuNer's spill the beans. :8

Joe Curry 11th May 2014 10:51

especially when Qatar and US Airways are about to start services.
Take away the moderation and there will be more spoilers here than an F1
circuit.

fwiw Edinburgh folk are a sedate bunch, it would take a troupe of scantily clad female flight attendants to get them really excited.

In comparison to other airports where IOM flights have them drooling, I would say that EDI ppruner's regal approach being more mature.

No one feeding the troll this week Joe.

I'd put money on this not happening. Why? TK, QR, and EK at Glasgow. That's why.

That's quite a risky bet. With aviation getting cheaper and cheaper, one day it will happen.

There may be a lot of competition, but there is still a potential market for an occasional charter flight bringing Chinese passengers to the UK.

That really needs caveating, "cheaper for some" surely.

OntimeexceptACARS 14th May 2014 17:09

On the very subject, an interesting article on the BBC website :

BBC News - Chinese tourists: 'Make UK visas easier!'

I was referring to airline operating costs. Aircraft are becoming more fuel efficient and therefore cheaper to operate with each new model, thereby making routes that were previously unprofitable more viable to operate.

Combine that with raises in wages, then this makes such flights more accessible to more people.

Does anyone know what gate did the Edelweiss flight park at?
cheers
:ok:
