Are you sure it`s not an Aer Lingus/KLM codeshare like they operate out of Cork and Dublin?

larry the man 22nd Jan 2014 21:27

That'll be a neat trick. They ceased operating in 2003!

EI-BUD 23rd Jan 2014 00:20

There won't be a code share between KLM and EI on a route between Belfast and Amsterdam even if EI did launch such a route . There is a restriction on the number of code share routes that KL can operate from any country, I think the limit is 2/3 and these are already in place ex the UK. Unless this union rule has changed. As for EI returning to a Belfast Amsterdam route not likely .

I think there is lots of scope for EI to be creative for summer season ex BHD, some routes could well manage twice weekly 319s like Venice for e.g however, aircraft availability will put paid to that idea for the forseable future.

I'd really like to see Wizzair return to NI, and the polish contingent is quite strong here. Surprising that at least a weekly service is not in place .

Did KLM not confirm last year that they would not be operating from BHD? Was germanwings not also mentioned ages ago?

BFS101 23rd Jan 2014 13:39

The rumour was that KLM (in whatever form, UK, Cityhopper, not sure Larry tbh, but I shant be pedantic) wanted to codeshare with flybe, as per INV and SOU, unsure if there are any more UK airports, however as per union agreement this was unworkable. The rumour is that they now intend to start flights using their own metal, apparently F70.

Rumours also of possible BE expansion, as the base was de-risked, with no redundancies now required, and to the extent that those who had applied for voluntary redundancy have been refused. This was after Saad was looking to reduce the BHD base by 1/3, and getting rid of 2 195s. Thoughts on the ground are either new routes that may include Europe, as is BHDs plan, or the BHD crew will operate more flights on mainland/European sectors and will be required to night-stop a lot more.

twinboom 23rd Jan 2014 21:33

errr No

The Base, as a whole, was never at risk. All EMB-195 pilots were so placed and ALL will either: i) Take voluntary severance, or ii) be successful in a bid to the Dash8 at BHD or elsewhere or iii) be made compulsorily redundant

BFS101 23rd Jan 2014 23:03

Four close contacts of mine, all cabin crew at BHD, had been given notice of redundancy. Had attended the meeting at the Stormomt Hotel given by Saad back in Dec, confirming that BHD would be affected by the compulsory redundancies to include cabin crew.

Makes sense when loosing LGW and two 195s, allegedly not being replaced by dash. These contacts had the option of applying for voluntary redundancy, and were told compulsory redundancy was also on the cards.

Each had one on one meetings with their manager. One contact also enquiring about possible base transfer if going to be made redundant. Then rumours from other bases started saying that BHD would escape the cuts. Informal statement in the crew room from the BE station manager confirming this, and also confirmed by an email from HR stating that no BHD cabin crew will loose their job, ie de-risked. The cabin crew contact that had applied for voluntary redundancy has now had this declined.

So from Dec, jobs have been found for a lot of cabin crew at BHD, contradicting at the time what Saad had told them. Union rep at BHD has stated another announcement is imminent but unable to give further details. However a lot of friends that have been stressing it over Christmas, have now all been told their jobs are safe, as per email from HR.

Sorry, should have mentioned in previous response that I was referring only to BE cabin crew, not flight deck.

Travelling through today I see the new BA lounge is almost complete, looks like a huge investment by BA, will be able to make the most of it when I travel to LHR next week. Makes the flybe lounge look so tired and dated, maybe it will be next :)

BFS BHD 5th Feb 2014 13:16

I see Flybe are adding a 2nd Saturday flight to East Midlands and replacing some of the services from Dash 8s to larger Embraer jets. Bring the total return flights a week to 19!

BFS101 7th Feb 2014 11:09

Copied over from the Heathrow thread, news that BA will use terminal 5 from Oct for their BHD flights. Excellent news!!!

City Airport BA flights to land at Terminal 5 - BelfastTelegraph.co.uk

bhd to ema

From the summer timetable the number of flights is 25 per week return flights , 4 per day mon to fri 2 per day sat 3 per day sun, do not know the aircraft type for each flight, but would expect a mix of all 3 types.

Etihad regional

With Cambridge airport recently getting a direct route to Amsterdam with Etihad Regional (previously Darwin air) and with etihad now trying to make a dent in the regional market to feed it's passengers into mainline
With that in mind and the on going rumours of Amsterdam from Bhd over the last few years
What are the chances of us seeing the arrival of such a route/airline or would this affect their Dub operations

EI-BUD 13th Feb 2014 19:27

Darwin/Etihad Regional haven't launched a DUB route. I think such a route makes as much sense as any of their existing routes though sadly none are breaking any records ....

BHD2BFS 18th Feb 2014 19:05

New airline to Doncaster according to Doncaster thread
Plus brand new BA lounge in the news today at BHD
And people here keep saying we should close it?

I wouldn't seeing as the final embraer leaves BHD in March

stab3.5up 18th Feb 2014 19:51

Links air from DSA to BHD but nit easy to see if its via IOM or direct. On a J41 one takes it. BA lounge and T5 good news for BHD allround then

LGWAlan 19th Feb 2014 12:09

Double daily Mon-Fri, once at weekends on a J31

GAZMO 19th Feb 2014 14:53

Slightly pricey at £135.00 return trip......starting price

stab3.5up 19th Feb 2014 17:06

But you get a free bottle of water and newspaper

mart901 19th Feb 2014 17:11

Not the most economic starting price given the market but bear in mind its not easyjet or ryanair style operating costs and its unfair to expect that type of pricing structure.
