Thanks Mart901. I suppose it depends on many factors. Just received email from BEE advertising flight at 24.99 (£50 return) Checked EZY website for next year and can same deal (£50)
Wonder if BEE to LPL will lead to a decline on their MAN service? |
BHD - LPL
CAA statistics suggest 195k passengers routed BHD - LPL in 2010, falling to 73k in 2011 when the route ceased. A significant market to go for. As to how many of those passengers moved to MAN, I suggest Flybe will know.

BE are frequently cheaper than EZY, they seem to be starting at about £50 return,BE are frequently cheaper than EZY, they seem to be starting at about £50 return,
Over the countless times I've done MAN to Belfast (All), BE have never been cheaper than EZY. People tend to pay the extra for the frequency and convenience with BE (as I have done). If these new LPL flights end up in a reduction in MAN frequency, they will lose their main competitive advantage and just dilute existing business. |
There's always more than one way to skin a cat and offering flights from MAN and LPL is one of them, they are only doing what EZY have done to them in reverse. LPL pax do seem to have favoured EZY over the years but BE are a lot more competitive of late and seem more aggressive.

Stats Belfast Liverpool
What is really interesting about the Belfast/ Liverpool route is that when FR came into the market, with the very lowest of fares with £1 each way no taxes and charges, they were carrying as many and more passengers on the route from BHD than EZY were carrying from BFS.
Equally, EZY still managed very strong numbers on the BFS link, falling back but nonetheless the market overall market size was massively grown, MAN ex BHD was doing quite well too at that time. The demand is there, and if you take the LPL market size ex BHD compared to other UK routes, BHD LPL has every chance of delivering strongly for BE. EI-BUD |
I remember reading years ago about how FR have a curious affect of growing some markets. In fact, if EI had realised this when FR started a Dublin - London route, EI could have finished them. What happened was that EI competed on price but with same frequency, so just weakened their own position, while FR just grew and grew by piling on capacity, which, history shows, the route seems to handle!
|
The Irish government forcing EI to stop their DUB-STN flights also played a role in FR's early survival
|
GLA going up to 5 daily from same date as LPL.
|
TRANSAVIA FRANCE starting a ORY-DUB any chance on onewonders of BHD or BFS?
|
Dear oh dear, An AF company launching competition in the Paris Dublin route against Cityjet.
I'd be surprised if FR sit back and watch another loco come into the Irish market. As for HV France coming to Belfast, would surprise me if they show up at BFS. EI and BE came onto the route together in 2008, they didn't last long and all carriers suffered on the route. |
Yep - you can almost sense the feeling of agitation welling up in FR.
Could get interesting. :) |
If I book a British airways code share flight to gatwick on EI, is a checked bag included or do I still have to pay a bag charge? When I did thi s previously out of Bfs to lhr the bag was included as BA baggage rules applied, now it is not as clear on the BA site.

Anyone have any thoughts what would happen to EI in BHD if IAG take over? Would they keep things the way they are at the minute or pull EI out? Maybe even pull BA out and let EI operate all flights.
|
Great results on LCY going up to 4 daily. Bet BE are glad they tried it!

Smoke indication in the cargo hold. The detectors are necessarily sensitive and spurious activations are not uncommon on many aircraft types.

***NEW AIRLINE AND ROUTE***
KLM Cityhopper to start a daily service from AMS-BHD in S15. KLM947 AMS-BHD - 10:00-10:40 KLM948 BHD-AMS - 11:40-13:50 To be operated by Fokker 70. Begins Monday 18th May 2015. :D |
Great new!
1 question though.... Is there enough checkin desks with both KLM and Vueling both departing on same days? |
Wow....massive news!!! Great to have KLM on board!
|
odd timing if its for AMS connection opportunities...
|
Is there a link for this announcement?
Can't find anything I see flights are already bookable. Usually airlines announce a route and either start selling tickets same time or usually a few weeks later |
Its bookable on KLM.com! Prices start from a very reasonable £80 return it seems.
|
Very good news indeed. Believe there is another major announcement due in a short timescale. Can't find out what it is but am assured we won't have to wait too long.
|
Any announcements for Belfast International shoe shine? :O
|
Belfast City now confirmed KLM: Belfast City Airport - KLM Announces Arrival to Ireland | News | Belfast City Airport

Well done to BHD and the team there. A legacy carrier that should compliment the existing connectivity offered from BA.May even be a cleaver move to stay well away from DUB but tap into the Irish market with there own metal.
|
With regards to another airline I have heard Dusseldorf being thrown around quote a bit - also ties in with belfast appearing on germanwings website
|
Other routes are indeed in the pipeline.. wait and see :)
|
Yes indeed I understand the Eagle will fly once again over Ireland!!
|
How come Germanwings has Belfast listed as 'BFS' and not 'BHD' if they are going to BHD...
|
Belfast in general is shortened to BFS - maybe doesn't actually refer to the airport
I'm sure it doesn't take much to change it to BHD if they have to Actually the airline I heard rumoured was Lufthansa Cityline |

While the new routes are most definitely positive news, how will this play out with regard to the seats for sale saga? I wonder have City management got the nod that this will be dealt with in a realistic manner at last or will Aldergrove attempt to further delay and muddy the waters.
|
Could they be charter flights for germans coming to ireland and not scheduled services for joe public?
|
I think panpanpanpan, in short there is still a fair way to go capacity wise and its in the airports interests to be up to capacity - not only in terms of productivity/profitability but also they will have more of a case when they are bursting at the seams than when there is no need for any increase.
|
Does Belfast City Airport still got a Passenger Cap on how many seats can be sold?? :)
