So why would an even more remote, undemocratic EU in Brussels help matters ? It's in the UK's interests to make NI work now and without money coming from the EU they will have to put more focus on us, and any money put in will be to the UK's benefit and directed by our politicians, directly accountable to the voter. Give it time, it will come right.

Mart, ever been to or near Derry? Road schemes, infrastructure (such as the Foyle and Peace bridges), plus the airport (yeah, yeah) have all been partly or entirely funded by Europe.

If you think it's in the UK's interest to make NI, a place with less economic significance than Leeds, work, then your naivity is even worse than I thought. That's my last comment on the matter. Enjoy being f****d by Brexit. Perhaps your reasons for it extend beyond economic.

benjyyy 11th Jul 2016 20:49

Oh dear. You would rather your fate be with that crowd at Stormont? I never thought I would see "our politicians" and "accountable" in the same sentence. Have you seen the shape of some of our politicians? This is a place where a monkey could be elected and continually re-elected for the sole reason of hating 'them'uns' enough. And that's before the 'NAMA' word even gets a mention.

Given this is a forum about aviation I shouldn't really carry on the brexit debate but what you have written is utter nonsense. It will be in the UK's interests to invest in NI? Why? Because we are ~2million of a 65million population whose wealth is so concentrated in SEEngland that they could conceivably forget about us completely. NI was a net beneficiary of the EU because they gave us so much assistance for being a poor hovel. The EU is a fully elected parliament with the same relative level of bureaucracy as any other government (except they managed to remember the wee people a bit better than the Tories will)

And given the type of people who run our assembly and their noted ability to fight tooth and nail over the most meaningless guff, you want to give them the reigns?

Honestly? Only winner is Dub while we fester.

mart901 11th Jul 2016 21:29

We'll see. There's nothing like underdog autopunishment mentality is there. Wallow in self pity and accept the status quo. Prophesy doom so you can say I told you so if it comes true. DUB will continue to grow until APD is addressed and I really can't be bothered wading any further into the brexit debate aviation related or otherwise because all I'm hearing is poor us here will never get a cut from the begging bowl when in reality its prosperity we need in NI not handouts.

Maybe there is more to it than just money. And maybe you also need to give a little bit more consideration to the risks of remain.

cuthere 11th Jul 2016 23:22

True Blue, enlighten us. Such as?

Startledgrapefruit 12th Jul 2016 00:23

Come on now
At least you can get a coffee with your name on it

BFS watcher 12th Jul 2016 18:55

BHD sale

Any word on how the BHD sale is going? Or are we still discussing coffee shops?

stab3.5up 13th Jul 2016 09:19

How many nectar points do you need to buy it or is covered by the tesco double points offer?

The chat around the airport does indicate a new carrier announcement.

mart901 13th Jul 2016 10:34

Be nice if the rumour of more domestic is true to connect some of the dots like BRS which have been missing for a while.

scodaman 13th Jul 2016 18:54

Wife is sitting on 7.20pm BA/Aer Lingus Heathrow flight to BHD. Has just messaged me from plane to say they've been delayed by at least 30 mins due to 'heavy weather' in Belfast. Just looked at the weather maps and nothing out of the ordinary so can't see how that could cause a delay for a Heathrow take off. It's on time Heathrow side.

Looks a bit heavy to me sitting down here in Belfast

scodaman 13th Jul 2016 19:46

Ended up taking off from LHR almost an hour later at 8.17pm

That was approx when it was due to land in BHD and other flights scheduled around that time landed ok more or less on time.

Did they give you a coffee voucher?

The self-righteousness of BFS narcacists cracks me up! Not long ago there were multiple posts about Clock Work Orange, Paul Rankin's venture, duty free etc etc. Wow, memories are short. Grow up. All that needed to be said about Starbucks warm liquid was said.

Move on.

Furthermore Eastern. Try reading the post. It was his wife, not him, who was delayed.

West Brit 13th Jul 2016 22:58

All that needed to be said about Starbucks warm liquid was said.

You should try and avoid using 'said' twice in the same sentence - it's poor grammar.

What at a pack of boring old farts u all are....not a bit of sense has been spoken for days now....u all need a good boot up the hole!

AerRyan 13th Jul 2016 23:09

The discussion in this thread is beyond petty. I knew there was deep problems in NI but my god.

Waldo1 13th Jul 2016 23:12
