I would just Book Monarch service is much better and sometimes cheaper that Ryanair I have seen flights from BHX quite cheap. Ive enen seen a £3 one once, but that was from Malaga though but im sure Alicante will be similar.

Fly380 7th Dec 2011 19:43

Maybe Ryanair like white elephants and are planning to take over Corvera:confused:

Old terminals at ALC to reopen to create more space:
OLD ALICANTE AIRPORT TERMINALS TO REOPEN | Costa Blanca | Leader - News, Sport, Spanish Property, Advertising, Classifieds - Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol, Costa Calida, Costa de Almeria, Spain

This may make Ryanair slightly happier

Fly380 23rd Dec 2011 17:36

Quote " Once the work is completed, the terminal buildings will boast 388,300 square meters of space, housing 149 check-in desks and 42 boarding gates "

That's the problem with Spain. Got to be better than everyone else although they don't have any money.
Corvera is supposed to be opening early next year. NO CHANCE. The Murcian government are supposed to be closing MJV which has a 2nd runway now and millions have been spent on upgrading the terminal, carparks etc.
Who the hell is going to use Corvera? People will change from using MJV and go back to Alicante. Corvera was supposed to take tourists to Paramount Studios and Polaris World golf courses. Polaris went bust - their rescuers may have kept their name. At the moment there is hardly anyone here on Orihuela Costa but they are building one of the largest commercial centres in Europe - La Zenia Boulevard. Spain is an extremely CORRUPT basketcase.:ugh: ps look at Castellon Airport near Valencia.

Seljuk22 12th Jan 2014 08:13

ALC finished the year with an increase of 8.8% and handled 9,638,860 passengers.

2012: 8,855,444 -10.7%

Fly380 12th Jan 2014 12:11

The last I heard of the fate of the old terminal building in 2013 is that it is to become yet another shopping centre.:ugh:

The last I heard of the fate of the old terminal building in 2013 is that it is to become yet another shopping centre.
I've heard that they are making a connecting hallway between the New Terminal and Terminal 1 to allow a greater area of the airport to be used:

Benidorm all year round.: Old Alicante airport terminal to get a new lease of life

eu01 12th Jan 2014 12:53

This shopping centre is still in planning phase. According to the most recent news (this month), Aerovillage has just presented the updated €40-million project to the Spanish Airports Authority (AENA). The company aims to build a 40,000 sq. m complex, with 109 shops and restaurants, a hotel, indoor karting track and an area for flight, skiing and racing simulators, which is expected to create 650 jobs. It is, however, worth mentioning that the project has not yet been approved by AENA, the negotiations are being held for more than two years now.

I re pick up this thread for comment the news about ALC. ALC ended 2015 with 10,574,484 passengers with an increase of 5.1% being historical record of passenger :) For summer 2016 we have 31 new routes, another historical record, previously held by summer of 2013 with 23 new routes.

We also have already 10 new airlines for S16: Aeroflot, Atlantic Airways, Bulgaria Air, Eurowings, Lufthansa, Neos (to Tel Aviv), SWISS, TAROM, Thomas Cook and TUI Netherlands. The increase calculated for the busiest months (June, July and August) is 171 flights per week more, over additional 25 daily flights.

PD: Sorry for my english :)

A greeting!

MKY661 25th Feb 2016 22:34

Alicante just had it's busiest ever year, and by the end of next year it could be the 5th Busiest in Spain overtaking Gran Canaria, which it has been catching up with :)

I didn't realise this thread already existed and made a new one, so I have deleted it now. Here is my original post:

S16 looks like a significant year for Alicante already. The airport has a total of 35 new services launching in 2016 and it looks like a very busy year for Alicante :D. This is also due to the tourism boom in Spain, due to the decline in tourism in places like Turkey & Egypt.

Here are a summary of all of the new services the airport will receive in 2016:

Aeroflot - Moscow Sheremetyevo (begins 1 June 2016)
Aer Lingus - Belfast-City (begins 29 April 2016) (Seasonal)
Atlantic Airways - Vagar (begins 9 April 2016) (Seasonal Charter)
Bulgaria Air - Sofia (begins 30 April 2016) (Seasonal)
easyJet - Milan Malpensa (begins 11 June 2016)
Eurowings - Dusseldorf (begins 29 March 2016), Vienna (begins 27 March 2016)
Flybe - Doncaster/Sheffield (begins 25 March 2016), Norwich (begins 25 March 2016)
Iberia Regional - Palma de Mallorca (begins 27 March 2016), Vigo (begins 5 July 2016) (Seasonal)
KLM - Amsterdam (begins 4 July 2016)
Lufthansa - Frankfurt (begins 2 April 2016)
Neos - Tel Aviv (begins 23 June 2016) (Seasonal Charter)
Ryanair - Belfast-International (begins 2 September 2016), Glasgow (begins 30 October 2016), London Gatwick (begins 31 October 2016), Newquay (begins 3 April 2016), Rome-Fiumicino (begins 27 March 2016)
Swiss - Zurich (begins 19 March 2016)
TAROM - Bucharest (begins 4 June 2016) (Seasonal)
Thomas Cook - Manchester (resumes 22 May 2016)
TUI Airlines Netherlands - Amsterdam (begins 19 April 2016) (Charter)
Transavia - Munich (begins 31 May 2016)
Travel Service - Wroclaw (begins 8 June 2016) (Seasonal Charter)
Volotea - Bordeaux (begins 10 April 2016) (Seasonal) Nantes (begins 2 April 2016) (Seasonal)
Vueling - Birmingham (begins 17 June 2016), Edinburgh (begins 16 June 2016), Manchester (begins 17 June 2016), Milan-Malpensa (begins 17 June 2016), Nantes (begins 9 April 2016), Zurich (begins 16 June 2016)
Wizz Air - Cluj-Napoca (begins 24 July 2016), Sofia (begins 27 March 2016)

There are also many frequency increases planned as well.

With all of this growth, do you think they will plan to expand the airport where the old terminal site was or will they build a new terminal of the land of the old terminal? I have travelled to Alicante and it gets very busy in summer at around 10-11am and it is about to get even busier.

Also are there any routes that Alicante are still missing that could be realistic and successful if operated?

Zorua 3rd Mar 2016 11:55

Ryanair announces a new route between Alicante & Belfast Intl., starting 2 September with 3 weekly flights, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays :)
Yesterday, Ryanair announced too an increase in the ALC-NCL route for W16, up to 4xw. Great news this new route as there are few flights ALC-BFS in winter

ALC - BFS
FR1308: 21:10 - 23:10 - 1/3/5
BFS - ALC
FR1307: 16:40 - 20:35 - 1/3/5

A greeting!

David Sharpe 3rd Mar 2016 21:46

It will be interesting to see monthly passenger and movement figures for all the major airports in Spain as we move into the Summer months.

There seem to be never ending announcements of new services and additional frequencies on routes from the UK, certainly helped by the uncertainty in other parts of the world, and the listing for the new airlines at Alicante seems to indicate that a similar pattern can be seen in other European countries.

All in all, it looks like 2016 will be a bumper year for a number of the Spanish Airports.

Zorua 8th Mar 2016 16:59

Wow, great news for ALC! These new services just keep rolling in! What a year for ALC this year! I will be travelling to ALC in July and would love to see some of these new carriers!

Lon12 8th Mar 2016 19:50

Last 3 routes announced in ALC are the same routes have been launched from Valencia...

Moscow, Tel Aviv and Amsterdam.... With Aeroflot or KLM.

And LH group have launched recently routes already operated from VLC.

Frankfurt 1 weekly from ALC / 2 daily from VLC

Düsseldorf 3 weekly from ALC / 1 daily from VLC

Zurich 3 weekly from ALC / 3 or 4 daily from VLC

But that doesn't happen when for example Norwegian, Jet 2 or Easyjet open something from ALC.... Valencia never appears in their plans....

Jetblast79 9th Mar 2016 05:34

BA Cityflyer could open LCY, It would be great, at least during summer.

And of course, BA should reopen LHR. Many BA frequent flyers own a villa in the zone and a lot of business traffic is flying ALC-MAD-LHR-XXX stopping 2 times to get to a final destination.

Zorua 17th Mar 2016 12:05

3 more new routes for S16 in ALC, up to 36: Tenerife South (Vueling), Vigo (Air Europa) and Manchester (Norwegian). And maybe we will have another one soon :)

February stats in ALC

Pax: 610.441 pax. (+21,2%)
Ops: 4.495 ops. (+20,7%)
Kg: 472.500 kg. (+162,9%)

Accumulated

Pax January-February: 1.203.590 pax. (+20,1%)
Ops January-February: 9.112 ops. (+19,9%)
Kg January-February: 853.205 kg. (+137,4%)

In two months we¡ve already 200,000 additional passengers! The estimated growth for this summer is 20% and 25% in some months, awesome. This year 11,5M passengers minimum :)
