Fly Gibraltar, the commercial airline that was due to service air routes to several UK destinations, will not be operating as it has been unable to deposit the £10m insurance bond with the Civil Aviation Authority required to commence business. Fly Gibraltar is the aviation arm of OEM, the firm constructing the Nelson’s View ‘affordable housing’ project, and owned by Irish property tycoon Robert Noonan.


The company has kept the public guessing for months as to when the inaugural Gibraltar flight would take place, but insurmountable financial issues have meant that the project will be put on hold for an indefinite period.
During its highly publicised presentation last year, which was attended by the Minister for Tourism, the company had earmarked April 2007 for the launch of full-scale operations.
The original Fly Gibraltar plan was devised on the basis of one daily flight to UK but it subsequently grew significantly, to include numerous routes in England and the Republic of Ireland.
Aviation experts have attributed the company’s failure to an over-ambitious business plan that in its final incarnation incorporated two planes carrying out eight daily flights, but without the necessary financial back-up to support it.
It is understood Fly Gibraltar have also returned the name ‘Gibraltar’ in their commercial name to the local Government.

Just heard that the BRS and East Mids service will no longer operate from next Winter, and that MAN base is closing (pressumably to help manage the expansion at LGW?!?)

What you mean take over Eurogatwick next year? Eurogatwick doesnt exsist as the Fleet is called The Gatwick Fleet which is a Mainline fleet CC doing both Longhaul and shorthaul flying.

although i don't think it's going to happen........ your point about LGW being mixed fleet is irrelevant. Only the cabin crew are mixed fleet.

The airbus' are replacing the B737's, and that's it. BA could run them all, GB could run them all in conjunction with BA........ doesn't matter, and the cabin crew would still operate a mixed fleet rosta.

The 777's are all crewed from LHR, albeit with some having a preferred LGW report (please someone at BA correct me if thats not the case anymore, but it certainly was)

I believe GB have 1 a/c in MAN during the winter and 2 during the summer. Although a previous post suggests MAN is closing, so that'll mean no a/c up there presumably!

No-one has said MAN is closing. Quite the reverse acutally, GB are trying to get BA to approve new routes.

GB Manchester pax figures are very good, plus they take more money from the punters than Gatwick RE: nothings free.

Thats interesting especially withe airbus order , wonder what they planning !!

I think the only regions GB operate from are BRS and EMA, with flights to TFS.

I gather these are stopping from the winter season.

Manchester is adding Malta for winter 07/08.

The article below indicates BA is swapping 14 737s for 8 Airbus. Could this mean that the other 6 aircraft are the 6 that GB has on order (with GB taking some routes too?!).




British Airways reveals plans for replacing Gatwick Boeing 737 fleet

British Airways (BA) has ordered eight more Airbus A320-family narrowbodies as part of plans to replace ageing London Gatwick airport-based Boeing 737s with A319s transferred from its main Heathrow base.

The Oneworld alliance carrier says that the eight additional A320s will be delivered between 2008 and 2010.

“This is the first step towards a single short-haul fleet across British Airways’ network,” it says.

BA adds that it will "upgrade the Gatwick short-haul fleet by replacing the oldest 14 Boeing 737s with Airbus A319 aircraft".

Chief executive Willie Walsh says: "We’ve made considerable progress at Gatwick, particularly on costs. Gatwick is an important part of our short-haul strategy and replacing the older Boeing 737 fleet with Airbus aircraft will give us flexibility across both airports."

BA currently has 67 Airbus aircraft in its short-haul fleet.

I think the answer is actually in your post... I believe the 14 B737's are being replaced with 14 A319's from LHR.

The 8 new A320 deliveries are going to LHR, so any route shuffling will be up there.
