"London Luton Airport will shortly commence the necessary building works for a Security Priority Lane at the airport. This will give passengers the choice of taking a priority lane to the security search point.

Natalie Raper, London Luton Airport Marketing Director, said " Although investment has enabled us to reduce queue times for all passengers, we are aware that some passengers would value a way of guaranteeing the quickest possible progress to the security search point. We are therefore introducing the Priority Lane option and will be making a charge of £3.00 per passenger for this service; only passengers that choose to use the Priority Lane will be charged. By offering a choice of options we can provide an airport experience to suit the needs of all passengers."

What is the plan for the Silver Jet terminal / lounge.

Perhaps make it the new Executive Lounge, to replace the upper facility.

But if I remember corectly the departure Q's were the same anyway, or did that improve in the last few weeks of Silver Jets life. ??????

The area to the right of the Silverjet lounge is still the ghost of the former old departure lounge complete with abandoned shops, the bar and restaurants. The old duty free shop also remains. Add this to the Silverjet lounge and you have a large area that is ripe for redevelopment but not for an executive lounge due to its distance from the check-in area.


At the moment the old Boots shop is used by WH Smith for storage.

I understand the Dubai rumour persists, but not to be flown by the previously mentioned airline?

The London TMA sounds rather quiet for long periods since the winter schedules kicked in!

As they are based locally;

TUI Travel has revealed a further ‘significant’ UK capacity cut for the current winter season. Its 9% reduction in charter flying means that total winter capacity has been reduced by 28% comapred to last winter. Its summer 2009 capacity has also been reduced by 16% as the holiday company predicted a ‘weaker earlier booking environment’.

For winter, average charter holiday selling prices are up by 10% due to stronger pricing the past two months. The winter charter programme is half sold with 9% fewer holidays to sell, but the company is seeing weaker demand for ski holidays, with adventure and expedition cruising seeing positive growth. Volumes for next summer are 17% down on the same period last year but average selling prices are up 11%.

These quoted TUI reductions from a recent trading statement were always on the cards when the fleets of FCA/TOM merged (now combined as Thomson Airways)

The based LTN aircraft remain as a 757/737NG for Winter 08/09 with a planned 737CL/737NG/757 for Summer 09.

Ryanair Announce London Expansion Plans Tomorrow.
 

According to Travel Mole website, Ryanair will be announcing an expansion of services from the London area, at a meeting tomorrow morning.

The article does not go into detail exactly where the expansion will be focused, but the chances are STN will not be the place where the expansion takes place, unless BAA and FR have kissed and made up after their latest love/hate relationship.

I think Gatwick could be a strong possibility, as services to Gerona and Alicante from Gatwich have already been announced. It depends on if Ryanair can gain enough slots.

However there must be some good money on them announcing further expansion at Luton tomorrow, seeing as this is their only other London base after STN. {Fingers crossed}

More talk about Dubai on a couple of spotters forums, would be nice but as Silverjet could not fill anything approaching break-even, we will see........

Dubai would only work if there was an interline arrangment with frequent onward services - I would consider going to Mumbai or Delhi that way rather with Virgin form LHR as I do now and many others would consider it.

Silverjet didin't have these frequent onward connections and it hard to see how anyone other than Emirates could via Dubia.

Think of a neighbouring emirate supplying the aircraft into Dubai from Luton?

Anyone care to tell them that Luton is an airport close to London with excellent onward connections?

Figures just released show Luton bucked the trend of many airports with a 1.7 increase in passenger numbers for October with 886,117 passing through the airport. The rolling figure of 10,291,231 indicates a 4.7 per cent increase.
Air Transport Movements were also up in October by 2.3 per cent.
Although I have been a loyal supporter of Luton over many years the knockers must admit these are very good results indeed.

Not true. Luton's true figure is over 100,000 movements per year
