Air Blue evaluating Luton service.

Ryan now seem to have BIQ in the "online check-in drop down" from LTN. Is this to become a new route ?
|
Prov June stats show a positive pax increase of some 21k, to 954k. Bearing in mind the loss of Silverjet, & the current adverse financial climate, these figs are not too bad. Rolling 12m up 6% to 10.22m.

Just been looking at the departure screen, between 06:20 and 07:00 there are 16 departures listed. Nothing special I guess but Luton has really come along way in recent years. It doesn’t seem that long ago that Luton didn’t have 16 departures listed on the information boards for a whole day in the winter months.
What year and what airlines are shown here? http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/6...stscan3zi6.jpg |
Well i will go for the easiest first
BY----Britannia OM---Monarch DA--- Dan Air EO---London European KG----Orion SM ??? Will pass on this one Intersting how many of these were to Italian destinations |
EO = Euroflite (their spelling) The 1530 flight to BRU ran in 1983/4. London European identifier was UQ, although they did take over and run the BRU service on the EO flight number for a while in 1985, the afternoon departure was 1600 (EO214).
SM = Altair (Italian operator) |
Very Good
This is how the airport handbook described Luton around 1985. In terms of charter flights operated, Luton is the second largest airport in the UK. And in terms of international flights, we rank as number four in the UK. And, if you discount the domestic, scheduled and long-haul services, you find that Luton International Airport stands unrivalled in the medium range Charter Holiday Flights business. Although Luton specialises in charter holiday flights, we also provide a base for some very successful scheduled flights, principally to Brussels and during the summer months to the Channel Islands. |
I can remember when there were only 4 departures all some days during the week.
2 x trooping flights to Germany 2 x Belfast schedule. All flown by the same aircraft! |
Having another look at the old departure screen, it shows 3 trooping flights (Gibraltar, Hanover & Dusseldorf) - no longer operated from Luton, or by Britannia (TOM).
It also shows 5 charter flights to Italian destinations, something completely missing from today's operations, by Orion, Altair, Monarch & Dan Air. Of the eleven flights shown, only one was scheduled, and that on a small aircraft (Bandierante?). And of the 6 airlines listed, only two survive (Monarch and BriTuiFly). What a contrast to today's operations! |

Crass treatment of PAX
As a prospective user of Luton Airport that would for personal reasons; need to use a loggage trolly - Carrying ability limited - I regard this ;quote ;revenue source enablement"- Can I be a manager please ? - As a crass money grabbing, small minded, crabby piece of extortion. Better Idea!! - charge Airlines for tha amount of Runway used on T/O and landing with a set of tape measures;"Revenue assistants"; positioned (with ear muffs self provided ) every ten/ twenty feet along the Rwy, counting the skid marks (Hmmm).CAT III

I was at Manchester Piccadilly railway station a while back and had to pay to get through a turnstile so I could have a slash. I wouldn’t put it past this lot to introduce a pee charge.
|
Re prev - Its the same at B'ham New Street Station - PS Lets enhance the experence for SLF - while queing for your trolly; searching for coins( great on returning to the UK), why not don our Passenger experence Respirators; so we can charge you for inhaling our atmosphere at the terminal - Discounts for no exhalation all credit cards accepted. Now I'm really getting annoyed. (Serious for a Min It affects public attitudes that check in staff / CC have to deal with generally)Thanks.

CATIII-NDB, as you're so obviously disenchanted with Luton why not try using Birmingham, Coventry, East Midlands, Gatwick, Heathrow or Stansted? In fact, any airport other than Luton which so obviously, raises your blood pressure... :hmm:
PS. If your obvious stress causes you to suffer a heart attack in Luton's terminal, don't worry - the use of the defibrilators there is free of charge. |
EB - A repost
Thanks Mr Scrooge - over the years I have used most of the listed, exept Manch & Cov. EMA was a Divert - Oct fog at BHX beat a CATII Equip G - BAZG BY 732. What I'm moaning about is the costing out of essential services to the Nth degree in an effort to make a Buck out of SLF - I'm no cheap skate either. Eu 200 Dub Stn a few weeks back. On the Moped to Cov me thinks. Thanks

The Italian charters on the screen were no doubt Easter flights for the Italian community in the Bedford area....In which case it was probably 1984
|
The 19th of April was a Thursday in 1984.
|
LAI Travel and Pegasus were the charterers to Italy. Many airframes making apperances inc BIA, Eurofly, London European, Sabre over the years. As for Altair, thier hybrid schemed Caravelle's and bald tyres......! Does my lucid bear memory remember an Italian operator called Noman, DC-9's?
Can I rent a trolly with one of these? http://www.thelondonsouvenirshop.com...jflagtoken.jpg |
So what is to stop you picking up a trolley that someone has just abandoned?
