Wizz are increasing Sofia to daily from March, up from 4 weekly from last summer, and carried on through this winter.

As of today, for SO8, Wizz will operate 11 routes from LTN. Four will be double daily, 3 daily, with the remainder, 3, 4 or 5 weekly. This equates to 88 weekly departures and is an increase of about 22% on S07.

Two additional new routes are expected to be announced in late January.

LGS6753 27th Nov 2007 21:15

The Wizzair announcement today includes a domestic flight between Sofia and Varna. What's the betting that Luton-Varna will be announced early 2008 as the 80th scheduled destination from Luton, and Wizz's 12th?

December 4th looks like a good time to view a Trident look-a-like? I had better pack my ear defenders!

Wizz, how about Turkey?

What they coming to Luton for? Does that mean a TU-154 is coming to the airport?! That will please the local NIMBY groups! :p

Not sure if those TU-154's can clear LTN's runway, despite their size, they require quite a long runway! Lets hope they do not bring an Airbus, as we see enough of them day in day out!

Shame I will be at work that day. - Any pics appreciated!

Level bust 1st Dec 2007 11:14

TU154 is not a problem from Luton's runway.

In the past Balkan and Via operated a series using them.

Bet they won't have a tow bar for it though!

EZYramper 1st Dec 2007 11:56

During the summer I remember seeing a RA- registered trijet taxi in and park on stand 12. I can't quite remember what it was but it had a blue/purple/silver paint scheme, think it may have been a private jet.

Anyone remember this one?!

pabely 1st Dec 2007 15:31

EZYramper: There have been a few private Yak42's for Chelskz games, so you could have seen one of those.

Aeroflot would be suprise as they have used LGW and I think STN in the past.

The Bulkan 154's - what about the Tarom Il18's, now that was sight. Remember 3 on the pond one saturday in 1989 on school charters.

Buster the Bear 3rd Dec 2007 21:38

Luton: 1,989,430 passengers. 27,217 commercial movements.

Stansted: 262,747 passengers. 5,905 commercial movements.

Guess the year?

22/04 3rd Dec 2007 22:49

1972 perhaps, after Channel went bust. Could be 73, but think LTN would have done more with the colured wide bodied three holers!

LTNman 4th Dec 2007 03:51

After 1986 but before 1990 might be even 1981-82

LGS6753 4th Dec 2007 14:00

Well, the three-pot Trident lookalike arrived just 45 minutes late, landing noisily and smokily from a heavy sky. It's here for 12 hours or so, having brought in an orchestra.

It's parked nose-in on stand 15, so I hope someone's got a tow bar....

The Tu 154

And a magnificent sight (and sound) it was.
An orchestra eh? Must have been flying on instruments then...

1981, the year Buster was first released at Luton!

First ever Aeroflot airliner at Luton, or so I am reliably told by an 'undercover' spotter!

I am not related to a certain bear in Sudan!

Might well have come to Luton because with a scheduled 23.35 departure time it could have been delayed until morning if it was to depart after midnight due to other London Airport’s nighttime noise rules.

This happened years ago when a Virgin 747 that was running very late flew in from New York and left well after Midnight empty I think back to New York.

toledoashley 5th Dec 2007 06:23

wizzair - Luton to Bourgas is in the system! So much for LTN - Varna!

LGS6753 5th Dec 2007 18:49

Toledoashley,

Bourgas was operated in summer 2007, so not new for 2008. My suggestion of Varna was based on Wizz establishing it as a destination, and that it is the second city of Bulgaria.
