looks like its a ltn based aircraft so mite be replacing either fez or marrakech for the winter months, kerry seems to be operated 3times a week

Kerry is a far shorter route than Fez or Marrakesh. Probably replaces Brest, or a Dublin flight

EasyJet is to close its Luton call centre
 
EasyJet is to close its Luton call centre resulting in the loss of almost 150 jobs.

After a 90-day consultation period reviewing the Luton office, the no-frills airline has decided to move the operation by the end of this year to Berlin, Germany, and Poznan, Poland.

EasyJet spokeswoman Samantha Day, said: "We are continually reviewing all our operations to ensure they are as cost-efficient as possible and this decision comes as a result of a thorough evaluation of all the options available.

"Having reviewed the contact centre operation in detail, we have concluded that our current operation is not sustainable and we believe that the outsource partner can provide the most effective, efficient and scaleable service to suit the ongoing needs of the business, as the airline continues to expand.

"Outsourcing will clearly have a significant impact on everyone working in the contact centre and easyJet is working closely with its 144 contact centre staff and their representatives, providing the services of a professional outplacement provider who will be able to help with any career advice and support they may require."

Fez and Brest both seem to be ending for the winter so perhaps another new route will be launched in addition to Kerry?

Well, with the Kerry flight leaving LTN at the same time(0630) as the Fez was operating, it would seem there is about 3hrs 45mins to fill. Fez arrives back at 13.35, while Kerry is back at 0950. There is no additional DUB on these days, and other routes seem no different, so maybe there is something else in the offing to fill the gap.

Haven't they just relocated this into the big Orange Hanger (H89) and awarded an IT contract? I suspect the call centre workers were sick of all the leaks in the roof and the queues at the access door anyhow. Unfortunately a sign of the times.....

Will this put pressure on Aer Arran with the expanded Galway service? Sorry don't know the infrastructure in that part of Ireland - just a thought.

The call centre was the only department not to move to H89. That decision makes a lot more sense now.
Due to an increase in the expected number of crew training, easyLand will be converted into six classrooms for training new pilots and cabin crew. The Academy is expected to be at full capacity from January.

So will he be saying goodbye to Luton or could Luton handle one?
No - LTN cannot accommodate an Airbus A380 as the surface infrastructure - runway width (no hard shoulders), turn-offs and taxiways are not compatible with the A380's requirements. Neither are any parking stands.


So unless the aircraft's owner is willing to pay for the additional concrete (LLAO certainly won't...) he will not be operating it through LTN.


But... given the fact that many 'lesser' airports world-wide (i.e. not just in the UK) cannot accommodate the A380, why would he dispose of his Boeing 767 which offers significantly more flexibility in terms of where it can operate?

Ryanair Route Changes
 
Some thoughts:

Dropping Fez/Adding Kerry - I'm not sure that Fez is a summer route. Remember it was only launced in late October 2006 and in any case Morocco tends to be more popular during the winter. So does this mean the end of Fez? Ryanair have already dropped a number of routes to Morocco from mainland Europe since they were started during 2006.


Dropping Brest - this happened last winter. The aircraft just sat at Luton on Tuesday and Thursday and I would expect the same to happen this winter. Brest also operates on Saturday during the summer but Saturday schedules on all routes out of Luton tend to be very different to those operated on the other 6 days of the week.

Ryanair have already dropped a number of routes to Morocco from mainland Europe since they were started during 2006
That was due to traffic right issues, now resolved

Aer Arann Luton Airport routes break records
 
Irish airline Aer Arann has announced that its route between Luton Airport and Waterford carried 9,106 passengers last month - a cross-channel record for the airline with passengers up 30 percent compared to a year earlier.

The 9,000 passenger mark was surpassed on its flights between Luton and Galway - it carried 9,001 passengers - with passenger traffic on the route up by 20 percent compared with August 2006.

Aer Arann started the Luton - Waterford flights four years ago and boosted flight frequency on the Luton - Galway route to three times a day on four days each week last May.

Colin Lewis, head of sales and marketing at Aer Arann, said: 'This news is a great follow up to last month's announcement that August 2007 has been the busiest ever for Aer Arann since the airline began operating commercial flights from Waterford Airport in 2003.'

Natalie Raper, Business Development Director, London Luton Airport, said: 'I'm delighted to see Aer Arann's continued success at London Luton. The increased frequency and better timings on these routes have been incremental to this growth. It won't be long before we hit the 10,000 mark!'

So will Silverjet move out of Luton?
Who knows? LTN's past performance on retaining these new start-up operators isn't brilliant. But... why would Silverjet abandon LTN for LHR? Although there is some overlap of catchment areas, if a significant proportion of Silverjet's pax originate from north/northwest London or north of LTN, LHR wouldn't be such an attractive option, surely? Agreed, road access to/from LTN with all the ongoing roadworks is appalling at the moment, but at the end of next year, apart from its horrendous Central Terminal Area road layout, surface access to/from LTN should significantly improve.

Maybe Silverjet's market research has shown a sufficient proportion of its pax as orginating from west/central London or west of LHR.

Or perhaps the plan is to operate from both airports? :confused:
